Cute that they really think LSU is their rival. Truly delusional.

Historically speaking Ole Miss is LSU’s rival. The Rebs just don’t win often enough to hold up their end of the rivalry.

I think their rivalry with Arkansas is under rated (though we had a lousy game this year). Even when the teams are bad we tend to have good games with each other and the series is close enough its still an actual rivalry.

Ole Miss is a dumpster fire.

To speak specifically to the mascot issue...

Why the hell would the university not just completely replace "rebel" with a different mascot altogether? This trying to add "rebel" in front of some goofy arse blackbear or worse - landshark - makes zero sense and shows an administration completely out of touch with the fanbase.

Having said that, keep it up because it's been fun to watch.

An LSU fan made the effort to surf FB, find this post, redact it, and start a thread about it here on the SECRant.

Sooooo...

No LSU really doesn't have a true Rivalry if people are honest. Tulane when they were in the SEC was the only true rivalry. Ole Miss was in the 50's and 60's when Vaught was there.

I've said all along that the administration needs to stop this piecemeal crap. If you're going to do it, do it all at once. Change OM to the Mississippi Rogues or something, but get it over with already.

It does seem a bit protestor-y down there lately.

That dude's nihilism is mostly nostalgia, though.

I'm sure the town itself is not frustrated.

I think they are a rival to a segment of LSU's fanbase. My Father is in his 70's, that generation, yes. Tulane was the in-state rival back then, remember they were in the SEC until 1965 or 1966. LSU played them the Saturday after Thanksgiving up until the 1991 season. Of course in 1992, the SEC made the LSU-Arky game the Friday after thanksgiving game at 1:30 which effectively started the end of the LSU-Tulane series as from that time on, where to play that game became an issue and from 1992 to 2008 (save 2009-2-10) and 2011-2013, LSU had no option at all of having the last game of the year a nite game, something LSU starting doing in 1931 I do believe.

Not arguing that LSU should bring back the Tulane game now as I think too much time has elapsed and it will never have the same feel as it did even up till the 1980's, but I do remember a bench clearing game in Tiger Stadium when I think Arnsparger was coach.

Most of Ole Miss’s faculty have a huge problem with the university’s nickname and won’t include “Ole Miss” as a part of their official signatures in their written and e-correspondence with faculty outside of Oxford, and with the academy in general.
Instead they use the University if Mississippi.

It remains a contentious subject amongst OM academia and the university’s branding/MarkCom folks.
