A torn meniscus is tolerable depending on the severity of the damage.

I can't imagine playing on a torn ACL good lord

The doctors were pretty astonished, too. The ones that performed his surgery.

Surgery on an ACL or meniscus doesn't make it a severe injury
Meniscus? No usually serious... ACL? Definitely serious.

OK. I've always heard torn ACLs combined with torn meniscus was pretty serious. Just stop while you're behind.

It's hilarious to me that you think the schools athletic trainers and doctors would let him play with a severe (and potentially career ending) knee injury. Just because he was in pain does not make it a severe injury. Just another example of sensationalism.

Damaged meniscus does hurt like a bitch though.

From speaking with people having torn an ACL, they say it hurts at first but then subsides afterwards (completely torn). I would imagine a partially torn ACL hurting for an extended time until surgery was performed.

I played DL on a torn meniscus in high school. It was pretty painful but it wasn't until after the season that I had the surgery.

And I scaled Mt. Everest with a broken foot.

Again, I refer you to the surgeons that repaired his ACL and meniscus.

Just read where Julio Jones apparently played a season with a broken hand, and both McElroy and AJ played with broken/cracked ribs?

Wow.

I will confirm that FSU did play some guys through injuries. Just depends on their pain tolerance and ability to push through. Concussions and spine related injuries are pretty much the only ones that the AT dept will hold you out on no matter what you try to do as a player.

I played a 10 game season with a severed achilles heel, 2 meniscus tears, bloated liver, hernia, 3 bulging discs, four concussions, and a nose full of snot. It wasn't until I had a high fever from malaria that they found the other issues.

It really wasn't as bad as it sounds once you got your knee drained and took a ton of bextra (which later we found out was terrible for you)

Those and legitimate knee injuries. Local highschool kid had a compound fracture in a finger during pregame warmups.. they set it on the field, zipped him up, and he was cleared to play.

The one that people are always surprised by is turf toe. I guess it's because it sounds so petty but those that I talked to that had to deal with it say it's no joke.
