Coker had the second best performance of a Bama QB in a NC game ever.

Really remarkable. Only McCarron's second championship game was a better performance. Quite a ride for a kid from Mobile who almost never started a college football game.
1993 Sugar Bowl - Jay Barker, 4 for 13 with 2 interceptions
2010 BCS title game - McElroy 6 of 11 for 58 yards
2012 BCS - McCarron 23/34 for 234 yards, 0 TD's
2013 BCS - McCarron 20/28 for 264 yards, 4TD's
2016 Title Game - Coker 16/25 for 335 yards, 2 TD's
You can keep going back, but the passing game was far less emphasized from 1979 back and not even Namath had comparable stats in his championship game.

I would say McCarron's 2012 performance was way better.

Coker was really bad last night.
Credit on that pass to Stewart though when he was about to get hit. That was a huge throw and a huge play.

Understand what I'm saying. I don't think Coker is a great, or even very good quarterback. I'm just impressed with how much he accomplished with the talent he has.
McCarron's performance was probably better against LSU considering the defense and the situation, but statistically it is not better than Coker last night.

Wow, never realized Jay Barker s numbers were so miniscule.
Was Sara Evans aware of this before they hooked up ?

Jay Barker was an atrocious QB in his first season, but we didn't need him to be anything special. Two years later, he was invited to the Heisman ceremony. Quite an improvement.

He probably lost 75+ taking needless sacks. Still a good game though imho

not sure his performance will translate to a higher draft position

IMO, Jake Coker isn't anywhere near AJ as a quarterback. I'm just impressed as hell with his heart and I'm happy for the kid.
I won't miss him next year, I promise you.

Coker did what he had to do to win with little help from Henry or the running game in general. Honestly, the success Alabama has had with initially shitty qbs who turned into playmakers is probably the most impressive thing about this run. I get they are surrounded by 5* talent, which does make it easier, but coker was kinda shite 2 years ago and he basically lead his team to a national championship and made the plays that mattered. Hats off.

I can't imagine a team using a draft pick on him. He has so far to go to develop as a QB it wouldn't be worth the time spent.

I want to see Pooley Hubert's stats from the '26 Rose Bowl before I can call this stat legit.

Not sure how anybody can shite on Coker after the year he put together.
The dude doesn't talk shite or bring attention to himself or do anything to embarrass himself or the University. He goes out and wins a national championship and plays great down the stretch and in the postseason. But ten or so jackasses will feel the need to poo-poo his accomplishments. Why? I guess if you're just a hater you've got to find something to do with yourself. But damn, there are a lot of people that are easier to dislike than Jake Coker.

I can't hate on him. I've been on board with him as the starter since the loss to Ole Miss.
You can't argue with these stats:
263-393 3,110 yards 66.9% 21 TDs 8 INTs

He had two long passes on busted coverages and one on a flat route to Howard.
He was good in the game. However, he had the 2nd best qb performance in that game.
ETA: 2nd best Bama qb performance. Just saw that
Yeah baby!

Quarterbacks in the past had one direction, don't lose it. In recent years they have had to win games.

This is why we laugh when people say yes but you're replacing your QB. It's difficult replacing linemen on both sides and difficult low heat experienced receivers but for whatever reason Bama changes QB out and still find a way to win 4 NT three of which were first yr starters and I think 3 different OC.
