Reality hit this past season. Good thing they've polished up their coattail riding the past few years.

Good thing your Momma polishes my knob every time I'm in that part of town looking for work-for-food labor.

You're moving up my list ... bitch.

There are other factors to consider. The state of South Carolina has one of better economies in the south, and around the country. That means the state will grow as people continue move in to find jobs.

Some of those families moving in will bring in kids that might have been stars in their previous state.

South Carolina is already a great state to recruit in, and it's going to get better.

2013 wasn't a fluke. Mizzou was legit.

We finished #5 in the country. Blew out most teams we played.

Maybe that's not legit, but we would have broken it off in LSU the past two years. That much is certain.

What's funny is I have no doubts, zero, Missouri would have kicked LSU's arse each of the last two years.

But we'll never know, will we? All we have to go on is Mizzou won the East twice and LSU won jack shite.

Now that's funny.

Before Spurrier, for the most part the program was pretty bad.

You skipped a step.

#1 Carolina was historically not good

#2 Hired Lou Holtz, HoF coach

#3 Hired Steve Spurrier, HoF coach

Post Spurrier the Cocks have shown they will hire at least another HoF coach or one who will make the HoF someday. I do not foresee the Cocks returning to their pre SEC days and should have little trouble attracting a Top 25 to Top 50 type coach. SEC TV money means mo money, mo money, mo money.

Holtz went 33-37 at SC and was 10 games under .500 in conference.

To be fair, he went 0-11 in his first season which many attribute to the previous coach, who had gone 1-10 + a 2013 UF-like number of injuries.

We had some good seasons in 2000-2001 but then it took a dive straight down into mediocrity finishing 5-7, 5-7, 6-5 and a bunch of players getting arrested at the end. Holtz certainly helped, but Spurrier wasn't exactly playing with the best hand. In fact, Spurrier has admitted that he didn't realize exactly how far behind we were in terms of facilities in comparison to the rest of the SEC.

Agreed, and that was part of my point. I think Spurrier has laid a good foundation down.

That's what I think (biased of course) and what many people seem to forget. Not that facilities = success, but people assume that when Spurrier retires that the physical upgrades we've had over the last 10 years, and they are undoubtedly significant, will just crumble down.

I understand that when he leaves it will hurt recruiting for a cycle or two, like it does for everyone and as proved by his 2-3 comments, but I think we can recover from that.. especially if he get ourselves a good hire.

99 went 0–11, .... 0–8 6th (East)
00 went 8–4, 5–3 .... 2nd (East) | W Outback Bowl
01 went 9–3, 5–3 .... 3rd (East) | W Outback Bowl
02 went 5–7, 3–5 .... 4th (East)
03 went 5–7, 2–6 .... 4th (East)
04 went 6–5, 4–4 .... 3rd (East)

South Carolina : 33–37, 19–29

Like Charlie Pell, Holtz was the coach that took a bad team to a moderate to good team so Spurrier arrived at both schools with better level of play and players then what either school had historically. Viewed another way, if neither Pell or Holtz were at their respective schools, Spurrier may not have coached at either one as both would have required building a program from scratch and not just upgrading one that was already competitive.
