Headed to the coast next weekend and was wondering is I26 still a fricking nightmare? Family and I went to Savannah back in March, traffic around the construction wasn't to bad but it wasn't "vacation season". If I can just get to highway 21, right past the 77/26 interchange, I'll probably just exit there and go that way.

Bubba, you have me confused. Where exactly are you going?

Fripp
The GTown thing threw me. See from where you are coming now. Get ready for a long drive from Charleston to Fripp. But you probably know that.
Wish you luck and be safe.

From the upstate (Gaffney). Traffic was UNREAL on the way down last year. Made it a 6 1/2 hour trip out of a normally 4 1/2 hour. Came home 21 to Columbia then 26.

Yes i-26 is under construction still. It is 50/50 whether you will get stuck in traffic or not.

I-26 between Columbia and Charleston is typically pretty bad but I can't even imagine how terrible it is right now with the construction and vacation season..
My suggestion? Avoid at all costs. Find another way to the beach. Back roads are nice... We have nice small towns in SC.

Hey, you might want to consider, Gtown, 9 to Lancaster 521 to Camden, then 601 until just before Orangeburg where you pick up I-26.
Just suggesting.

I've done Charleston to Columbia on backroads before. It is actually a nice drive.

Never noticed, but I guess that's a Gaffney helmet in your sig then?
My parents moved us away when I was like 1 or so. But my entire family on both sides is from there and most still live there. I must have been part of the first generation of my family not to go to GHS in decades.

Solid suggestion, actually. A lot pretty scenery, as well.

Think I'm gonna go 321 to 78 below Orangeburg, hang a left on 78 to hwy 21 and I'm home free.
