The fact is a 1 loss Miss State, Ole Miss, AU or Bama deserve the 4th spot with upcoming schedules assuming one of the 2 MS teams win out including the SECCG. The only way a 2nd team from the West does not go at this point under above scenario is UGA winning in Atlanta, which if they only have 1 loss they would go and if the team they beat from the west only lost to UGA.
FSU should stroll right in now. Oregon maybe if they can win out but still have a few games to worry about including Stanford who always gives them a game and possibly a rematch with a team from the other division who already beat them.
Mich State right now is in a great place with a big game looming with OSU. Might not be considered as big as the upcoming west matchups but those are really going to help MSU. But what will hurt them is Oregon winning out who already beat them.
ND really has no shot in my opinion even if they do win out. They do not play in a conference CG which will hurt them and they play their last game at USC which may or may not be ranked on the same weekend Ols Miss vs MSU and AU vs Bama. Only one of those 4 teams will go to Atlanta and if another one has only 1 loss it will look better to the committee that last weekend over ND IMO. Last impression will be huge.
I think right now it is FSU, SEC champ, Oregon, and SEC west 1 loss if conference won by the West or MSU if not and they win out. UGA may be the most dangerous variable for the west right now.
But just like the BCS always did it will probably work itself out in the end.

Yeah, if you have some time read these in-depth pieces on how the playoff committee is going to work. The committee had a bunch of journalists select the 4 teams from the 2008 season (UF beat #1 Bama in the SECCG) and left Bama out.
They put so much emphasis on conference championships. Also, I was baffled how a 1 loss Texas team which did not win their BIG 12 South division got in but Bama got left out.

Looks like the coaches are finally paying attention.
Only 8 teams receiving votes outside the top 25.

They did. Co-champions with 1 loss Texas Tech and Oklahoma. They lost to Texas Tech on the Crabtree catch and beat Oklahoma. Oklahoma got to go to the title game because their loss to Texas came early in the season so they had "enough time to climb back in the polls" and barely be ahead of Texas and Texas Tech in the BCS.

So you think a 1 loss Auburn gets in over a 1 loss MSU team who throughly beat Auburn? Seems legit.
Let me help you out here.

Even if Mississippi State won out

A one loss Auburn team

that only has one loss that just so happened to come against undefeated and ranked #1 Mississippi State.
Hope that helps you.

Arizona is not unranked. That's like saying LSU lost at home to an unranked team in week 4. They lost to Mississippi State.
We still smashed Michigan State 46-27.

Sure that Bama team lost to Utah in the Bowl game but at the time of the hypothetical 4 team selection before the bowl games, you couldn't say Bama deserved to get left out over Texas and USC.
I'm interested to see how this committee operates.

All things equal a loss coming at home or away should be considered getting into the playoff.
It's ridiculous TO ME that Bama got a mulligan in '11 because they lost at home.
Bama and Auburn lost on the road this year and that should be considered.

Does margin of victory mean anything to you?

Auburn schedule by far toughest of the 4 top SEC west teams

I'm having trouble believing Notre Dame will fall that far in the AP..

FSU, Oregon, SEC west champ are probably locks.
The 4th spot will probably be one of:
Notre Dame (probably in if they win out)
Michigan St (as Big10 champs)
Georgia (still has to play #6 Auburn/SEC championship)
Michigan St wins out they will be the best choice as conference champs. They're a virtual lock if they can beat tOSU. Two SEC teams in the play-off is not good for the system, that pushes us down the "8 teams" road and will further diminish the regular season.

Bama sitting pretty and in position to make they playoffs if they can win out. Not saying it'll be easy, because it wont. LSU on the road and then 2 home games against MSU and Auburn, who are both awesome teams.
