It is his literal dream job. He grew up wanting to play or coach at LSU and he is doing that now. After having such a horrible first head coaching experience at Ole Miss, he probably never even was interviewed for a job outside of position coach. I'd be willing to bet he thought he would never get another chance at being a head coach, much less at LSU.
So his emotion is completely understandable.
All of this. I think he did a great job at USC and LSU as an interim. I have no issue with him being named the coach.
Don't let the idiot millenials that post here reflect the support Coach O has.
Motherfricker gonna bring recruits and some noise IMO. I'm all aboard this train

Mentioning his dad choked him up. Not accepting the job. There weren't a ton of obvious options outside of jimbo and Herman and jimbo wasn't coming. The strategy is O taking less $ to hire the best staff $ can buy. Alleva Better hope it works. I hope it does. It wasn't what I really wanted but I can see why the move was made. Both stints USC and Lsu were better than any interim coach in over 30 years. Dabo was 4-3. He can recruit.. Loves Lsu. Pete Carroll took him under his wing and even called alleva to recommend him. I can only hope O parallels dabos success. I mean he was a position coach who motivates and recruits well. He was also a position coach. It can be done.

I'm pulling for him.
It'd be one hell of a story, never has a man fit a school in such a passionate & unique way.
Dude is as Louisiana as it gets.

It was heartwarming sure. And he loves LSU sure. But Crying during your acceptance speech upon GETTING the job? Actors don't thank God and their parents when they get a role. I'd prefer his goal to be to win championships, and save the victory speech until then.
What an inspiration you must be for others!

I wish Coach O the best. I like his enthusiasm and overall attitude.

I think it was him having to be around all those yuppies at Ole Miss. I don't think he really cares much for people that feel like they are entitled to whatever they want. Probably wasn't a good fit for Ole Miss.

this could be their version of Mike Dubose. We Bama fans clamored for Mike after Stallings retired. Little did we know.

I want to be happy for O since he's apologized so much and taken the blame for his failure at Ole Miss, but then I remember him telling our administration, donors, etc to frick of multiple times and even tried to fight them. Back when I was in school I saw him at Bofields one Sunday morning for brunch with my family who was in town for the game that weekend (including my 12 year old niece) and said to him, "Good morning, how are ya?" in passing at the buffet and he just responded "Eat shite n diiiiie". Real classy guy you snagged there LSU.

He actually said "Mmm.... Eatin' chicken and pie". It makes sense if you misunderstood him

Same here. No matter what happens we as fans know that O is living his dream and will give us everything he has. That to me looks like a mad man on a mission. I'm excited for LSU football!

Reminds me of when Freeze took over. A Misippi good 'ol baw living his dream as a Rebal. The fans were excited! Check back in with us after 4-5 years and let us know how he's working out for you.

Can't help but like the guy. He's as authentic as it gets. Hope he's a shitty coach for Auburn's sake, though

quote:Yep. I think it was a smart move to give him a shot at it. Low risk -- recruiting should remain strong and LSU can make another HC change without big buyout cost if it doesn't work out. I hope he's successful.
