What does SEC Country call this dish?

Bonus: White gravy or brown gravy with the fried steak?

South Louisiana calls it chicken fried steak, and you can find it with either brown or white gravy.

Growing up in New Orleans the first 20 years of my life, I never saw it. I eat it now, but only with brown gravy, mashed potatoes and green beans. I find white gravy to be nasty, flavorless, watery paste.

IDK where in Arkansas you're from, but Southern MO and Northern AR are no different.

Unless they are green beans. With more pork parts than actual beans. And they are useful in forming a levee to keep the extra cream gravy on the plate.

I have never been a big fan of country fried steak but chicken fried chicken with the white pepper gravy, a side of macaroni and cheese, and creamed corn from Mary Mac's Tea Room in downtown Atlanta, with an appetizer of Pot Likker and Cracklin' Corn Bread, is something I recommend to anyone who asks my opinion about where to eat in Atlanta proper. They'll bring you buttermilk too, if you want to dip your cornbread in and out between the buttermilk and the pot likker.

This thread is proof that most here can’t cook worth a shite. And most don’t even know what they are eating.

Country fried steak is cube steak that is dredged in flour and fried in a cast iron skillet and the drippings are used to make the gravy.

Chicken fried steak is a cubed/cutlet steak that is dipped in a thick egg batter and then dredged in flour before being deep fried. Served with a white pepper gravy.

They are two different things. Which is best is personal preference.

I run an onion through the food processor and press my cubed steak/ deer meat in them before sifting the flour all over. Then fry it in lard in a stainless skillet.
I make my onion/mushroom gravy in a separate cast iron larger skillet, then as each piece is done frying, it goes into that gravy.

I cook it at least once a week, and I cook enough to have it for breakfast the next day with some wheat toast.
