I'm a little bit mystified that this forum doesn't seem to have a PM function? Or if it does, I am completely missing its location on someone's profile page. Because I would have rather just PM'd this to you, WhiskeyPapa, but I guess I'll just air it out in public and face the incoming downvotes.

Yes, the SEC Rant is a very rough place on the Internet. But with over 700 posts here, I would think you'd have realized that by now? Message boards vary throughout the Internet and they all sort of evolve their own culture and standard operating procedure. This one contains a large amount of smack-talking. Others maybe don't, but this is the Rant's place.

I'm sorry that it apparently truly upsets you. I don't necessarily want to justify it because I'm someone who's not really a smack-talker myself and, as you can tell from my post count, I don't speak up here very often. But I'm pretty sure trying to run a one-man crusade to try and change the culture of a long-established forum is just going to frustrate you in the end.

Sadly, a lot of the Internet is rough. But it's just the way it is largely due to the anonymity people are afforded. It's easy to bark when you're not at risk of having your face slapped. However, finger-wagging threads - or even passionate pleas for civility - are probably not the best way to go here. It's only going to end badly. At the end of the day, the only person you can control is yourself... so be the change you want to see. Post politely and respectfully and don't rise to the bait. That's basically how I conduct myself everywhere. Sometimes it can influence others, sometimes it doesn't.

At any rate, I tend to lurk more than anything else and I do often get a chuckle at watching the drama between folks here. But I wanted to say something to you because it's almost like watching my Dad posting in here - I really don't want you getting personally upset by how people act on the Internet. The majority of this on here, I view as tailgate smack-talking that is mostly tongue-in-cheek at the end of the day. Harmless stuff compared to real world problems.

For what it's worth, I know the University of Tennessee has done good things. So has Florida. Most the kids who are Volunteers are probably good kids. Same for Florida. I'm pretty sure most here would largely agree, but the general nature of the board is a place to smack-talk and so that's what dominates. Know the forest that you walk in.

Respect aside, I do hope we beat you again. But I also acknowledge that neither of our teams has really played anyone of note and we both have some pretty key players out due to injury, so the reality is this game is a toss-up. Largely like it has been the past few years. And I think it'll be another nailbiter like it was last year, where I was in the stands in person after having a lovely tailgate with some Vol fans.

My dearest Walter,

Do not let these childish ranters damper your spirits. They are just trying to upset you. Just believe that Tennessee will win the football game against Florida this year, just like they did last decade.

Sincerely,
A fellow delusional buttchugger.

You're taking this too serious and shite. This is the least cereal forum on all Owl Bore's innerwebs.

That's always a risk. And if he turns out to be a troll, I really do have to tip my cap because the roleplay is pretty entertaining.

I regret nothing.

How were you able to locate the quote button but not the PM button?

I largely blame alcohol, since I never really visit the Rant sober.

But, seriously, I'm not seeing a PM button in any of the usual obvious places that one generally does on a forum. Which seems weird as hell, but I didn't feel like puzzling it out for any great length of time.

The left of where, exactly? Screenshot example of literally nothing indicating a PM button.

I'm almost wondering if you have to have a minimum number of posts before that's a usable function. I know of at least one forum where that's the case.

He's just screwing with you. I PM-ed you the actual location of the button just to keep him from confusing the issue.
