We all know Lashlee is a puppet running that offense but he doesn't appear to be a very good, technical QB coach either.

Partly its the design of the tempo the offense plays at (hard to develop complex passing when you are going so fast) but Auburn does not seem to have a very sound passing attack when the opponent knows good and well its coming (3rd and long and what have you). Lashlee might not have the chops for the job.

Yes, they torched the Hogs secondary last year but only LSU and Mizzou didn't light up our secondary.

As for Gus staying... I'd rather he left to be honest. Auburn fans care about the Alabama and Georgia games. Maybe LSU or the random East draw. The rest of the West falls into the "yeah sure it would be good to win those" category.

Gus, on the other hand, plainly considers HIS super bowl games to be Alabama and Arkansas. Auburn will always give Arkansas its absolute best shot as long as Malzahn is coaching there.

I've always said that his hires have been the most confusing thing from an outsiders perceptive, expect for Muschamp. I know that hire didn't work out but it was great on paper at the time.

Out of curiosity...Who beside CRL is a bad hire? Steele you could argue, but given the refusal of Auburn to provide contract security to the DC who else was he going to get?

CDC was good hire.

CEJ at the time was a good hire...considering the debacle of 2012

CRG has probably proven to be his best hire to date.

CKB was and is considered an up and coming coach in the CDC mold.

CHH was a good hire.

You could probably argue chasing Champ was the bigger mistake. He could have hired stability last year at the DC position when things had a more positive outward perspective. However, I really don't blame him. Clearly he thought JJ was going to plug and play and believed with a decent defense we'd compete for the SEC title. Les, Mark and a few others thought the same things about their QB's as well. They just didn't have the media saying the Heisman stuff.

I said confusing not bad. I believe there are two that stick out to me recently, Kodi Burns and Steele. Kodi might turn out to be a terrific coach but I don't see why Gus couldn't have pulled in a more experienced coach. I don't think it is going to be that big of an issue either way beacause he is just coaching the WRs.

You have already brought up Steele and why that was questionable. No need to bring up CRL because many Auburn fans already dislike him and know more more about that situation than I every will.

I think Duncan said it best with "I think he wants coaches who will buy into his system and coach how he wants them to coach." I don't think that is necessarily a good thing. He also seems a little loyal to a fault with the whole CRL thing.

Some of the 'chatter' in the offseason was that many of the assistant coaches (especially Craig & the defensive staff) weren't allowed to do their jobs and that Gus had his hands all over their jobs. Of course a week after that you hear that he is totally hands-off and not taking it seriously.
I tend to believe the former based on the hires he made in the offseason with Hand, Williams and Burns.
If Gus needs to be a autocrat to be successful, I'm all for it. But he either does it that way with this staff or he does it somewhere else...IMO.

It is almost impossible to truly know because it changes depending on each persons' perspective. I have heard the same thing regarding Bert but it appears that he is fairly open minded.

At the end of the day the coaches have to get the wins and no one will care how controlling or loose with the program they truly are
