Right. I understand that, but I'm trying to figure out how accreditation would work. It's called college football for a reason. Not just names of universities but everything that goes with it.

I should clarify what I meant… make the players employees of each schools athletic association.
And yes they can be fired (cut) if they don’t perform. Let’s face it. It’s a pro game now, and it’s insane to ask the fans to subsidize the athletic associations who make millions of dollars. “Student-athlete” is a joke. NIL is an even bigger joke.
They are straight up paying for players now. So they should cut the facade and lean into what they are…professional sports.

Take top 64 teams based on revenue/attendance/etc.
Tell everyone else to frick off.
4 16 team conferences
8 team divisions.
Schedule is 7 teams from your division, 4 from other division of your conference, 1 OOC from other 3 conferences. (Set by governing body, based on previous year..i.e #1 from one conference vs #1 from another etc).
Conf Champ game is first round of playoffs.
Tell everyone else to frick off.

“Money Money Money”. That’s the new college slogan. ESPN/ Disney and F0X, NBC, CBS need eyeballs with money to spend to continue the never ending bidding wars upcoming. Like everything in life, there must be a ceiling.
This past weekend the SEC Championship game ratings had 18 million viewers compared to only 10 million for the exciting Iowa / Michigan showdown.
CBS went out with a Bang and a pot of money.
Whatever the final outcome, compelling games drives eyeballs.
The bigger problem I see is the lawsuit in court by former players who are seeking compensation.
The only way the networks can pay the sums necessary is for great matchups and a system fair to all.
I’m sure people smarter than myself will figure this out. Unfortunately, I’ll probably be dead.
