Worst idea imaginable. I wonder how Tom Fornelli ever got a job reporting college football. He basically threw everything out that makes college football great. No traditional rivalries, no use for bowl games, and regional fan passion would be gone.

So how does South Carolina get a tier above Auburn?

Conceptually, I like the idea. Practically, don't see it working.

Too many programs attached to the P5 getting free rides (football)...UK, Wake, KU, Colo, etc. Force them to actually put some effort into improving.

The "King of CFB" LOL, Chuck Oliver has mentioned something similar for a few years , which is somewhat better.

Basically 5 power conferences with little brother G5 leagues attached. With bottom 2 and top 2 switching every year. So...

SEC- Sunbelt
B12-conf USA
ACc-AAC
B10-Mac
PAc12-MWC

So take for instance a senario where Ark St and App St would replace Mizzou and USC this year.

The one quote to prove he's a fricking moron:

"If neither Alabama or Auburn qualify for a playoff spot in their conferences, the Iron Bowl could be played in an actual bowl game. It wouldn't be ideal, but it would be better than the two not playing at all."

Bama and Auburn traveling to Memphis to play the Iron Bowl. fricking genius right there.

Florida won the East, how would we be behind Georgia?

Honestly, college football would be the perfect sport for relegation.

They will eventually get to these super conferences anyway, once that happens, bye bye to all the smaller schools, they would no longer stand a chance.

If a team hit a bad stretch and got relegated, how in the world would they be able to recruit enough talent to pull themselves up by the bootstraps?

As it stands now, a coaching change or some other culture shift can bring in high level talent, but what chance do you have if you are playing in division 3 or 4?

let's use UGA for example then. Say this happened after last season and this is the first year. UGA finishes 13th in tier 1, they move down to tier 2. You know who they'd have scheduled next year? SC, UF, Wisconsin Nebraska Michigan USC Az St TCU....and you wouldn't be able to recruit?

please

again I think it's a cool concept but would never happen. Still a interesting concept

If you use the EPL as an example (Leicester City this year is an outlier) there is very little movement among the tiers...abd especially none to the top 4. It is the same teams over and over again.

I am sure there is an argument to be made that this would benefit the teams currently in the SEC including us, but I have never been a conference guy so frick all the rest of ya.

I actually like underdogs and cinderella stories. With this set up a non factory school could have everything come together in a magical season and it means nothing because they are tier 2 or 3.

terrible.

auburn being tier 3 below a&m and south carolina is a joke.

auburn is a strong tier 2, if you're dividing the tiers into groups of 3 or 4.

This article is clickbait for sports fans. None of these articles are ever enlightening and serve only the purpose of placating the audience during the offseason.

Terrible plan. So having one bad year would make you basically ineligible to win the national championship the next year. LSU went 8-3 so they would get demoted and in his system only Tier 1 teams can play for the national championship.

How many national champions have we had in recent years that started the season outside the top 14?

and they do now? c'mon man, smaller schools will not make the playoffs, ever.

however, that doesn't mean that they quit football. America loves the sport and alumni and states will pay to field teams even if the super conferences get ALL of the tv money.
