Probably. They set it up to prevent you from doing what you're trying to do.

I have comcast, and I thought all you need is just an active account (username) to access it. If that's the case,

Have you tried it? I don't know if it works or not, I'm just making an educated guess. Bad news for ESPN and the cable companies if everybody just watches TV through the Internet.

When I was without cable, I used my comcast account (my family still has Comcast) and it worked fine from last year. I haven't tried it yet this season.

I have TWC and have the watchespn app on my ipad. I gcould get everychannel on both my tv and ipad.

Once I downgraded my tv service and removed ESUPN, ESPNNEWS, etc...i also lost those on my ipad unfortunately. I also cannot get games if they are blacked out in my area through the app.

The app works only with what your tv packagae is.

Just like you have to have HBO on your tv to use the app.

if you have someone's login for WatchESPN, you can watch it from anywhere, regardless of what cable service you have or do not have...I am able to login to my account at a buddy's house who doesn't have cable

Yeah but the person with the login has to have the cable package I think. I don't get ESPNU or any special channel like that so I use my parents account to watch those channels.
