Yeah this is a much different start than y'all had last year. Given the talent disparity between State and their OOC opponents I don't know what's slowing everything up.

I was following the game online. Mitchell was clutch as well. Michigan State isn't bad. They beat Oregon State.

Haha they were in our regional last year. I just know them as the alma mater of Tony Kornheiser.

Walked off with a 4-3 win in the bottom of the 13th. Infield single.

That's 3 straight walkoff wins for the Rebs.

I don't know what to think about that.

Agreed. Hopefully we can get the sweep of a team that was a stepping soon for our hitting coach.

I don't think we had a single walk off win all of last season so I'll take clutch hitting in late innings all day long. Are we really gonna complain about walk off wins?

I'm not. Who cares about how you win? I certainly don't

No, it's good to see the hitting with runners in scoring position. That's plagued us in recent years, particularly in 2012. It was good to see us go 25 (might be one or two off on that) players deep tonight with everyone contributing.

Well, to be fair -- our nonconference opponents are 17-5 overall outside of their games against us. While the names may not jump off the page, they may mostly end up being respectable losses. The 2 against Holy Cross are unexplainable though.

That said, it should have been somewhat expected that we would start slower than last year -- since we're starting several new players at key positions and tinkering with the lineup a ton. We started 3 guys tonight that I don't expect to see much in conference play. I thought it was a huge mistake to redshirt both underclass catchers last year, leaving us with no experience at the position, and that's proving itself to be true early. Really just dealing with growing pains right now.

It was impressive all around, glad that our pitching held up 7 guys deep. I've been so impressed with the freshmen on this team. They are really stepping up. Love this pic from olemisspix, moments like this are how teams really bond together.

That's understandable. While their record of 17-5 is good, it isn't exactly Vanderbilt's OOC. I would've thought the talent disparity could've carried y'all but that's why baseball's funny and different.

The tournament in Arizona will be a good test of where State is headed this season. I wish we had something of the sort coming up.

Yeah we have a lot of newcomers that are playing really well in big roles (Lee, Robinson, Bortles, Woodman, Trent) as well as smaller ones (Tarkington, Bickel, Bell, Dulin, Short). It's a good mix and could be fun to watch this year.
