And don't give me the tv dollars BS, we were rich to begin with.

They don't bring shite to the conference except shitty campuses and mediocre sports programs. Oh and before A&M fans talk shite La. Monroe beat us worse.

A&M is cool. Mizzou is a question mark though.

Because someone who looks forward realized the direction the sport is heading - to super conferences - and picked 2 of the best possible partners out there. And money. And solid sports. And you've obviously never visited Mizzou.

French fries and mayo to go along with shitty BBQ.

That is the only logical explanation.

You guys are redneck losers. You're lucky Mizzou has graced you with our presence. Yankee superiority will always reign true. We're smarter, richer, and plain out better. I know, you're mad southern redneck. Just keep sending the paychecks to our school

LSU needed another in conference practice game besides Miss State. We ended getting some good practice in for our basketball team as well. I'm expecting a sweep in baseball too

A&M was a good pickup...best pickup of any conference thus far and a good cultural fit in the SEC.

Mizzou was just the tag-along that made the numbers even, although in their defense at least they brought a new market and decent athletic department.

But, mainly it was $$$....we had fallen behind the Big10 and Pac12 a tad since our last TV contact (which at the time was great but quickly became outdated), and now the SEC is about to jump back on top financially.

I honestly believe it was more of a preemptive move to block other conferences from grabbing them up. Well, mainly Texas A&M. It's not so much that we needed them, just that we didn't want other conferences being able to pick off some of the stronger remaining schools like the BIG did with Nebraska. I think it played out alright with us not getting embarrassing scrubs (even tho Mizzou is acting like one right now, but I'm sure they'll turn it around in a few years) but we also didn't get some major blue-blood program like Oklahoma or Texas that would end up winning the conference frequently.
It hasn't even been a full year for crying out so lets revisit this in about a decade and see how things are going then. I try not to be too harsh about letting them in because I know USC was very fortunate to get the invite way back in '92 although we were pretty far down the list. I think us and Arkansas fit in well and represent the SEC well now, even though we had a rough start (us going 1-21 from '98-99) and I have faith Mizzou and A&M will do the same eventually.

ETA: and yes, after tSEC re-works the contracts w/ ESPN, you'll start to realize that $$$ was the main reason. At least we kept another conference like the BIG or PAC from getting their markets. I mean heck, the Big 12 had to go after TCU and WVU Be thankful we didn't get any true 2nd rate former MWC or Big East school.
