Either way, he either stole it or knew it was stolen. In my mind this is old news and only tangentially relevant, if at all, to the current issues (i.e. he wasn't a saint in the past, so it is not beyond comprehension that he might have done something that was not above board during his recruitment).

Just as an aside, is that not attorney client privilege?

Agreed! I definitely was NOT vouching for it's accuracy - just pointing out that Cam's version and the police report tell two different stories.

He wasn't under arrest at that time. He had talked to two lawyers, but its not clear who he was talking to on the overheard call. They were still at Newton's dorm building when that occurred.
As another aside, the report says they found "numerous gaming consoles and another laptop" during the search of the room. Anything ever come of that? More stolen property? Room mate?

Someone posted the police report on here. sCam painted his name on the laptop. When the heat arrived he played dumb then when they went out of the room he threw it out of the window. If he didn't steal it or think it was stolen then why throw it out of the window?

So I'm wondering... why did Cam Newton have a lawyer to begin with?

I had the same thought when I first read this, but since then learned that he had 13 traffic violations while at Florida. Maybe his first call was to an attorney who helped him on the tickets, who advised him to call another guy who could help him better with a criminal matter (the second call).

My question is why did he get kicked off the team at UF for this incident? There have been 31 off the field arrests under Meyer's watch, and most were not kicked off the team, so why would UM kick the best player in college football off the team for this? This adds a whole other level of sketchy to this story. Anyone have explanations?

He claims he bought it for $100 and should have known it was too good to be true.
that should pretty much clear it up, I mean who here hasnt run into people selling shite for 100...

Two Things
1) HE will never do it again as now he can buy a whole gang of laptops.
2) how is it even possible to get 13 traffic tickets on a scooter? I mean really?

He didn't get kicked off the team.
Apparently he left school on his own, possibly to get out from the laptop issues as well as his impending hearing for academic cheating.

I figured there was more to it than that! I knew sCUM wouldn't kick him off for just that. Thanks

I throw all my belongings out the window when the cops show up.
Isn't this normal?

I wonder who was on the other end of the line who hid the laptop under the dumpster for Newton after he tossed it out the window? Somebody called "ceze"...
Did the police investigate this case at all? Newton might have been sitting on a bunch of stolen items ...(multiple game consoles and another laptop were listed in the report as being in his room)...

not to hijack the thread, but IMO, this is why Cam doesnt deserve the Heisman.
directly from the Heisman site:
"The Heisman Trophy annually recognizes the outstanding college football player whose performance best exhibits the persuit of excellence with integrity. Winners epitomize the great ability combines with diligence, perserverance, and hard work. The Heisman Trophy Trust ensures the continuation and integrity of this award."
Now, im no "Roads Scholar", but im guessing cheating and buying hot computers while your family is asking for "pay for play" is probably pretty close to the exact opposite of integrity.
