The tournament isn't the only factor in being a successful basketball coach. It's a crapshoot and crazy things happen. If you're good enough to be a 2 or 3 seed and lose in the first round of the tournament, it doesn't mean you had a bad season.

Getting a 2 seed and losing to St. Peter's isn't a good season. Not in a sport where March is everything.

You think Cal is why he went to Kentucky?

26-8 is a good season. St. Peter's was just one bad game.

32 teams lose in the first round every year, they didn't all have bad seasons based on one game.

They kind of did. It’s really the only thing that matters in MBB

I mean it's beyond that. Some folks (not you) pretending this is some one year anomaly is simply being contrarian:

2020: COVID year (I'll give him that)
2021: Didn't make the tournament - #1 Recruitiing Class
2022: St. Peter's Loss in First Round - #2 Recruiting Class
2023: Lost to Kansas State in Second Round - #6 Recruiting Class
2024: Lost to Oakland in First Round - #1 Recruiting Class

Nah. It's a long season, one bad game at the very end doesn't make the whole season bad.

It was clearly a joke.

I'm sorry that apparently you missed that lesson about contextual clues in class or something.

They don't all have the expectations of Kentucky.

"Making the tournament" is a standard for some programs. "Getting a high seed" is a standard for others. Those aren't Kentucky standards. Cal has not met the standard there for several years.

Maybe in football.

No one hangs banners for regular season bb wins. Regular season college basketball wins merit a smile, maybe an beer, and not much more. Otherwise, the UK 2015 team would be the stuff of legends. But they got beat in the final 4 so no one gives a shite.

I’m not arguing this is good or a rational way to evaluate a team. It’s just the way the sport works.

Kentucky also hasn't won a SEC Regular Season Championship since 2020 either.

That's pretty opposite of the overwhelming majority of Arkansas fans opinions the last few years.

Kentucky is a program who expects to contend for national championships every year, as well they should. They have a history of being one of the top programs and it’s not getting done lately.

The longer a coach stays the more chance of apathy setting in when expectations aren’t met.

Though we aren’t on the same level it happened here with Sutton and Richardson in the later years of their career here and with Hatfield and Nutt in football. We as fans grow impatient and want something new.

This is a win win for both programs involved with no animosity with both having a good chance of improving their situation, something to get excited about. This is rare in coaching changes.

The tournament is exciting but I think it can mask a bad season and diminish a good one. Arkansas had a bad season last year but miraculously beat Kansas so all of a sudden it's a good season? Not buying that, fun tournament game but the season as a whole was still bad.
