If Auburn wins the Iron Bowl how can they not make him their HC?

Auburn looks better now than it had in awhile, not sure why they're even hesitating

I doubt it.

More of an indictment on Harsin and his staff, but still very proud of Caddy and the remaining staff and players.

Needless to say, on paper this game shouldn't be close.

And if history has taught us anything, Auburn wins going away.

I don’t see why you wouldn’t Atleast give him a shot.

Love Caddy, but we have zero chance in that game. Alabama can name the score - we most likely get shut out.

You're not going to find a guy that will bend over backwards for that program like Coach Williams

They need to give him a shot no matter what

He'd do it for less and be more dedicated than any other option out there

I feel like they made him the interim coach to try to keep him from being poached. I know hes an Auburn guy but someone could still throw the bag at him before whoever the new coach is has a chance to come in and hire him to stay.

I assume he was RB coach? The new coach should absolutely keep him on staff.

Yeah, give him the job. At least until Tennessee fires Huepel. It will only be a year or two to wait.

I thought Williams had that team looking better in the 2nd half against State than it's looked in a long time.

He’s the best choice to at least keep what recruits Auburn has. I believe he was the best choice to unite the team and fan base as well. He was also a holdover from Gus’s staff, and probably has been with this Auburn team the longest.

Yes. He was also on Malzahn's staff the last few years.

Don’t get me wrong. I have nothing but love and respect for Carnell Williams. He was thrust into an impossible position, taking over an abysmal team in the middle of an abysmal season and only having three days to prepare for a night game on the road against an SEC divisional foe. That would be an almost impossible task for even an experienced head coach, much less a coach who’s never been more than a position coach and he’s only done that for a handful of years. And yes, after a terrible first half Cadillac coached that team to an amazing second half. He made the Auburn family proud.

But no one in their right mind thinks Carnell Williams is remotely ready to be a full time head football coach in the SEC. It would not be fair to him to expect him to be remotely ready to lead a college football program. He simply does not have the experience.

Having said all that, I sincerely hope whoever they do hire for HC has the sense to retain Carnell Williams on the staff. And, given time and coaching experience, there very well could come a day when Carnell Williams will be ready to lead a program. But that day is not here yet.

I hope they do. He was a Cadillac RB but will be a Yugo HC.

I love Carnell. What you saw Saturday was a lot of bottled up emotions coming out in a badly injured team with zero depth. Caddy played fired up and he channeled that for a bunch of kids who have had a wanna-be Saban running things for too long.

I think Carnell could be a good head coach some day, but he's not there yet. I hope whatever coach they do bring in sees the value in him, though. He's a solid recruiter and great motivator.

What makes you think that he even wants the head coaching job right now?
