quote:

Jones said Tuesday night during Tennessee’s Big Orange Caravan stop at the College Football Hall of Fame in downtown Atlanta that the Vols’ 10-9 loss to the Gators, a game UT led 9-0 at the start of the fourth quarter, “was probably the lowest moment I’ve ever had in my career.”

quote:

“It’s like last year, when we laid it out, the South Carolina game was really the culmination of really learning how to win. But I think the changing point was the Florida game, because obviously it was extremely disappointing for all involved. It was probably the lowest moment I’ve ever had in my career, and I had to put my tie on and go home and have 12 individuals at my house for an official visit.

quote:

“But our players, our young football team could have listened to all the clutter and distraction out there, and they didn’t listen to any of the noises. I knew if we could cross that hurdle, that would make us a better football team by the end of the season. And you go 4-1, you win a bowl game — a great bowl game, a New Year’s Day bowl game, so to speak — and it propels you.

It should be, it showed the world that he can't truck it in the SEC and it also gave him the name Botch.

If Dobbs plays that game we win by 2 TD.

Still pisses me off.

If we are calling the Taxslayer Bowl a "New Year's Day bowl game" now, then that former term of some significance is officially dead.

I think so too. The OL got their shite pushed in anytime they went against a good DL in the first half of the season and having a statue in Worley back there made it even worse.

The fans did this on their own

What are you talking about? The Taxslayer Bowl is just the Gator Bowl. The Gator Bowl has been a New Years Day Game forever.

It should be. The Tennessee fans showed out that day with the checkerboard that was put together by the fanbase only. Butch and staff promptly laid an egg.

Wait until there are actual expectations. Real expectations of "playoffs or bust", and Butch loses to South Carolina and Mizzou. He doesn't even know what a low point is yet.

I blame the OC with his terrible play calls.

I know, the point is it has lost quite a bit of esteem when you have a 6-6 and 7-5 team squaring off. "New Year's day bowl" used to have some significance, but it doesn't anymore even though people (like Butch Jones here) try to still throw the term around as if it still means what it used to.

Here I was thinking the lowest point of his career was losing to Derek Dooley's 5-7 UT team by 22 points.

So far he's played with house money. Low expectations and recruiting tactics that entail "come play right away because all our players suck." Won't stay that way for long.

Orange Nation is restless and impatient. 10 in a row to Florida. 8 in a row to Bama. Time to start producing. The show begins soon Butch.

Wait a minute. Visitors to Neyland can get first deck, mid-field seats?

Cool. Can't wait to play y'all there in 2023...
