James Franklin was doing this kind of stuff while winning 9.games a year instead of breaking even.....

How many did Franklin win this year? Oh yeah, 6 !

Very cool video. Ellis also has diabetes, and the medical staff checks his blood sugar multiple times of the course of games and practices. It’s just a very inspiring story.

It doesn’t hurt that he passed up two former **** TEs on the depth chart this year too. He's a good player, and definitely deserves that scholarship.

Wow what a bunch of morons.

"Don't give a scholarship to any walkon who earned it... because someone else has already done that before. How unoriginal."

I think it is awesome for any student, regardless of what color he wears on Saturday, to work his arse off and be rewarded with a scholarship.

A bunch of Grinch arse mother frickers in here.

Processes multiple recruited scholarship players, just to give the scholarship to a walk on

Sounds like butch can't rely on his own evaluations, gotta hope those walk ins work out

I dont care how original it is or it isnt.

That is a great moment in that kids life and I enjoyed watching it.

Way to go Coach Jones.

This and I'd say the same about anyone at any school. It's hard as hell for a walk-on to earn a scholly. Alex Ellis is from Delaware and has been paying out of state tuition for an biomedical engineering degree. His diabetes kept him from being able to get a scholly at one of the service academies and so he decided to walk-on at UT.

He would've likely been our starting TE last year but got hurt in the pre-season. When Ellis got his chance this season he was clutch every time. This is definitely a scholarship well-earned and deserved.

And one of the bigger things about Ellis is that he emerged as one of those critical behind the scenes team leaders. His impact on the team this year has been well beyond playing time.

Yep I watch every one of them. It is hard work paying off when someone wasn't handed the athletic talent that most of his teammates had. I don't care who the coach or team is, they are all great.
