I have a database of every P5 program's record against final ranked teams going back to when the AP poll started in 1936.

He has had 29 winning seasons in 31 years of coaching.
Cincinnati hadn't had a 10-win season since 1949 (the only one in their history) when he had one in his first year there and they finished ranked for the first time in 30 years. He then won 11 games in year 2 and went 12-0 in year 3 before leaving for ND (and Cincy finished ranked #4 in the nation). He put Cincy on the map.
ND had just two 10-win seasons in the previous 19 years before Kelly won 12 games and played in the national title game in 2012. He is on his 7th 10+ win season in 12 years there now.
ND didn't have a top 5 finish in 19 years until he had one in 2012. He could finish with his 4th top 5 finish in 12 seasons this year which included the NC Game appearance and two other playoff appearances. He made ND relevant again when they sucked for 2 decades basically.
LSU is located in a talent-rich state where Les Miles and Ed Freaking O have won national championships (and they won them fast too). You can't see how people see this as a great hire?

Brian Kelly is 2-1 against Lame Lane. He has a different team also. OPISS loses. OPISS has played 4 cream puffs.

Except Lane Kiffen struggles to win 8 games with a p5 schedule . 3 times he has won more than 7 games with a p5 schedule.
Kelly has as many 1 loss seasons with p5 schedule as kiffen has 8 or more wins against a p5 schedule.
