Like we said last week, any time USM wants to negotiate on the level of other non-SEC opponents then the deal is on the table

That's a good instate matchup, maybe they ought to play a neutral site 3rd game in New Orleans.

Cheap way to not have to pay schools to come to your place. Its really low class Big XII stuff. Sad

We're already scheduled to play Tulane in the Super dome in some upcoming seasons

What difference does it make if MSU pays Southern Miss or Georgia Tech pays Southern Miss?

Ought to play Tulane at their outdoor stadium, Tulane is not going to bring any fans to the Superdome.

I think Miss St and S Miss might be a decent draw in Superdome.

I heard one of MSU's people (AD or HC?) explain it. Scheduling 2-for-1 with a mid-major allows State to avoid having to pay the mid-major for the games at Starkville, so the combined savings of not having to pay the opponent for two home games is enough to offset the cost (in lost income from a home game) of playing a road game.

We play at Memphis and Tulane in the future as well. Both 2 for 1 deals like this one. Easy travel for our fans and not much cost for team travel

This sounds a bit like State is struggling financially within their athletic department. Not trolling, but wondering did you guys finance the majority of your football stadium expansion? Still paying off a lot of debt?

No doubt State and OM should play USM. Much better crowds for that game than State playing UAB or USA. It becomes an in-State event for that Saturday. You can make all the BS arguments about the money issues and such. The only reason State and Ole Miss quit playing them or won't play them is that both schools were scared.

This makes perfect sense to a 13 year old

Don't understand why would play southern miss in the first place.. Very risky game for them to scheduling. They already have play a Power 5 team.. Putting with them is just dumb.. One reason Ole Miss will not go vs southern miss. Southern Miss makes it their super bowl type game.
It's easy. State has to find a new in-state rival since Ole Miss is going to the NAIA.

I've been asking this same question for years and the blue hairs at MSU completely break down in a huffy puffy, snarled lipped fashion, and make some dopey claim that it's good for recruiting. it usually ends up being an embarrassment, e.g., @la tech, @south Alabama, whoever does this scheduling at MSU needs to be terminated immediately and sent to ramsey Bolton for corrections. The instate rivalry games like usm, jsu, mvsu, I don't mind, they are money makers and a lot of fun.

You really should take a second and use google to find out which SEC team has played in Hattiesburg the most, I think you are in for a surprise.

The UMass deal happened at the last minute because of UAB canceling their football program. It was 2-1 for deal too.
My wife and I went Boston for the game and it was a great treat to go to Gillette for a game. We had a blast.
So while I agree with your overall premiss that we should not go to far flung places for OOC games. In this case we took a sour lemon and made lemonade with the UMass deal. Frankly, we had very few choices but this worked out great IMO.

This USM deal, like I said previously, is a win-win all the way around.

Skip Bertman did it all the time during his AD years at LSU. He said it benefits state schools and the people who are fans of the smaller state schools are also LSU fans who rarely get to travel to see LSU games.

Jesus....you play at Memphis...are you struggling to finance that pile of metal shite your athletic department threw up in a hurry to make sure that your stadium capacity wasn't outdone by State?

We actually are playing UL Lafayette in New Orleans in the Superdome in 2019, and they are coming to us for one game.
