Maybe Sankey told UForfeit that unless they yielded and made plans to be in BR at his behest they -would- forfeit this game under the power given him in the Bylaws.

"We made this decision to play the game in Baton Rouge," said Foley. "The conference office asked us to find a solution in working with LSU, yet LSU was never a true partner in our discussions. The Southeastern Conference offered some other solutions and the LSU administration made it clear that they were unwilling to consider other reasonable options."
That's harsh, but much everybody hates the people who run LSU athletics.

For this excuse to have worked for Florida they would have had to cancel their women's soccer and volleyball events last weekend. Since they didn't the rest of the bullshite rhetoric they spewed becomes irrelevant.
The game should have been played Sunday or Monday in Gainesville or Saturday through Monday in BR. Florida pussied out and that can't be changed or argued away.

Are you really arguing the logistics of a home football game vs. women's soccer and volleyball?
There are more law enforcement for a football game than soccer and volleyball fans combined.

I believe Florida's not waiting to play Saturday had more to do with injuries to key players. QB defensive players etc on an on. They hope all is well by Nov because they have a tuff schedule then.

I didn't realize the Baton Rouge law enforcement agencies were tied up last weekend. But, LSU thought of that and offered to play in an empty stadium in either Gainesville or Baton Rouge. How much logistics does that require?
quote:
the Tigers embarked on a series of logistical plans to ensure they could still travel for the game. Ultimately LSU told the SEC they were prepared to fly into either Tallahassee or Tampa, since Gainesville's airport was closed on Friday, on the day of the Florida game and bus to Gainesville from either of those airports, which would be open because they were outside the storm's reach. After the game LSU would fly back out, ensuring that the team took up no hotel rooms in the state of Florida.
quote:
LSU officials were so diligent in their preparation that they had hotel rooms reserved for Florida in either Baton Rouge or New Orleans. As a final option designed to ensure as much equality as possible, LSU let it be known that they would play the game with no fans present.

Bottom line is that LSU wanted to play the game and tried to bend over backwards to appease UF to no avail. UF didn't want to play the game and had no backup plan available on purpose and it worked. They didn't have to play the game last weekend. See other teams on the East Coast playing scheduled games last weekend for reference.
The only reason they want to play it now is because they were informed that there was no way they could possibly make the SEC championship by cowardly chickening out on the LSU game. Why do you think they are now willing to play in BR when their staunchest statement last week was that "THE GAME WILL BE PLAYED IN GAINESVILLE."

UF knows LSU will be out of the playoffs and unmotivated by then...smart move.
