What an amazing story for this young man. Started off as a transfer running back and then switched to CB under the watch of Chavis. Only played one year there, got drafted and is now a starter next to Patrick Peterson for the Cardinals.
Wow
Thanks to tbird for the link

Easily the most athletic DB in AZ now.

So, I guess we'll get to see Williams wearing LSU gear after he loses the bet with Peterson on who will win the LSU/A&M game this year.

Kid was always super athletic and was a 5* RB when he came to OU. For some reason he just stopped putting in work at RB and transferred. Not surprised he ended up playing in the pros he was just gifted with talent.

Completely false.
He didn't have the size to be an inside runner. Switching to CB with athletic ability was a master stroke. Got to give the coaching staff props.

his vision really wasnt good enough to be a RB either. he never seemed to change direction when carrying the ball.
Chavis sure can develop DBs though

I am ridiculously happy for him. What an incredible transition

Chavis doesn't do anything special with his cornerbacks. He asks one question: "are they fast?" and if the answer is yes, he plays them.
His DBs will perform well in man coverage but struggle in zone. That's why our DBs went from awesome in 2014 to arse in 2015.

Hold up.
We're talking about a guy who was a RB all the way up until Chavis got ahold of him. Turned him from a mediocre RB to a starting-caliber NFL CB. In ONE season.
I think there's a liiiitle bit more than just speed to this equation Give credit where it's due, bruh. It won't hurt ya, and you can go right back to taking potshots at Chavis, I promise

It really is that simple. He lets the DB coach teach them man coverage and that's that. Brandon Williams is an elite athlete who can match WRs very well in man coverage.
It's how he was able to use freshman Rashard Robinson at 6'2 180 lbs to shut down Mike Evans in 2013. Robinson was a 3 star coming out of HS but used his elite size and speed to shut down Evans in man coverage.
It's also why some of his corners go to NFL systems that don't run man 95% of the time and look like chumps. (See Morris Claiborne)
So I'm sure Williams will do well in the Cardinals' system as long as they stick to man coverage.

This is an incorrect statement from you, sir.
Those sour grapes you're clutching?
Time to let them go.
Shhh, shhhh, it'll be ok.
Uncurl your fingers.......let 'em go

I wonder if Pat Henry can just loan the football team a few sprinters and we'll have the greatest secondary ever. It's just that easy right?

Teach them basic man coverage and if they have the speed and agility to match WRs, there's a chance.

donovan wilson played almost exclusively zone and was the reason chavis stayed in the nickel the majority of the time.

You mean like the Tyrann Mathieu role? That's a little different.

Chavis and Joseph didn't get him until after spring ball.
Absolutely outstanding coaching job by them both.
