I have been thinking about this seriously for a while now. Could the SEC make ECU the top football team in the state of N.C.? I honestly think that in 5 years it could be. The thing is, will the return on investment be worth it.
I was thinking ODU would be the best choice for the SEC to "Team Build". Huge Population area, big TV Market, great recruiting ground and a fast growing fan base that is begging for a big team to be in the area.

I'm thinking... they are discussing individual plays from a game played 45 years ago with no real implications other than it was just Bama football. Now I love my university and I am a big fan, but... jeez. Some people need to just get a life.
The Bama old guard despises Georgia Tech. They are still butthurt over the Bear Bryant-Bobby Dodd beef and that was like 50 years ago. It's mainly the reason why Bill Curry's tenure at Bama was so short. He never was really accepted by Bama's big cigars because he was a Ga. tech guy. Of course, not beating Auburn sealed his fate.
Dodd behaved like a little bitch and Tech's arse quit the SEC and they specifically blamed and whined about Bryant and Bama on the way out the door. Dodd was pissed about the Darwin Holt hit on in the 1961 game on Chick Granning that ended Granning's career and the fact that Bryant didn't discipline Holt to his satisfaction. But what pissed Dodd off was he didn't get his way on how scolly's were managed and what he viewed as over-signing by Bama and other SEC teams....although what Bama was doing was entirely within the rules. Dodd also refused to play certain SEC schools namely the ones from Mississippi. Dodd stated he would never travel to Mississippi to play a game.
Tech left thinking they were going to be the Notre Dame of the South and were independent from 65-77. That didn't work out and there record was middling at best. In 1975, Bryant made up with Dodd and personally assured him that he would sponsor their return to the SEC but Tech went another direction as he felt the rest of the SEC, specifically Ole Miss and MSU, wouldn't support it.

I would take Dodd over Bryant any day of the week. If I had son that was being recruited by both coaches, I would advise him to go with Coach Dodd any day of the week.
When looking back on his coaching career, Dodd was most proud of the fact that less than 5 of his players regretted their decision to play for him.
Some of you Bama yahoos are simply not deep enough to understand where I'm coming
The only thing that's "deep" about your rambling nonsensical post is that its Bull shite.
You must be Dodds grandson or something, because no right minded individual would even attempt to make the argument that Dodd was a better coach than Bryant.
Revisionist History is just that, revisionist. It cracks me up when people attempt to make the argument that some how Bryant had an advantage because he could sign 140 players. EVERYONE could do that during those times, so where's the advantage?
As far as the Holt- Granning incident, whatever. Injuries happen! Darwin Holt visited Graining in the Hospital and regretted the injury. But football was a brutal sport back then.
The Atlanta Media had a field day with that and it ultimately led to the Saturday Evening Post story. The same Post that eventually settled out of court with C Bryant because they knew it was bullshite.

There is a book by David Summers coming out regarding that Butts-Bryant-Post thing. Lots of research, from what I've read.
Might want to get it, Bubba.

What I don't understand is how this Techie guy claims to be a LSU Tiger. Pick one, and be done with it.

I'm sure he's uncovered some "knock your socks off revelations " 50 years after the incident...lol.
Wally Butts sued the crap out of the SEP and WON. They settled with Bryant, retracted the story and some say it's was the beginning of their downfall.
But I'll definitely look for the book. Im sure it can be found in any thrift shop in the FICTIONAL SECTION.
But on a different topic, regardless of what the Facebook IQ test scored you at, you're not a very sharp knife. Your ramblings about Bryant and Dodd indicate that you are either a troll, uninformed or about 13 years old. Either way, leave it alone. You are embarrassing yourself.

Mentioning Dodd's name seem to always get some Bama panties in a bunch.
Wonder why?

1990 NC ring won by Colorado in a 2 way split with Ga Tech when they shared the crown. Industrial size stab. Smart.
I think I hear a swarming noise of yellow jackets outside my house...
Used to live in Hotlanta, worked for a while in downtown Atlanta just a few blocks from Varsity...never saw many Ga Tech students....they were holed up doing math equations way over my head.
At night they had their dorms locked up and were scared to turn lights on. Gunfire was common in the area during late hours. I had some guys pull up to me in their car as I was walking towards Varsity with bad intentions, until I flashed my equalizer.
UF played Bama twice in a row in Tuscaloosa 1963-64. We upset Bama in 1963 when they were ranked 3rd...the next year was Spurriers first year and we almost got them again a hard fought battle 14-17. If we had been in the Swamp that game it might have been different...but we werent and wasnt.
The Saturday Evening Post was a weekly magazine that had good reputation and normally stayed away from controversy in politics etc etc. The story about Bryant and Butts was like a bombshell.
Right now the talk about 16 teams in the SEC is stupid. Why? We dont need it and havent even digested Mizzou and A&M yet. The younger posters have no earthly idea about history, tradition and patience. It should not even be discussed until 2025...and even then it may not be feasible.

Mentioning Dodds name isn't a problem. Stating he was better than Bryant is comical.
The only panties in a wad belong to Tech fans. That is why they "took their ball " and went home in 1964. The neighborhood had gotten to tough and they didn't want to play anymore

I would LOVE Tech to come back, especially if it meant getting rid of Missouri.
