It happens in Columbia too believe it or not.

Ironically, USCe violated the free lodging pretty seriously. Of the three teams playing in the 2010 SEC title game and BCS title game only one of them was clean that season.

"The case involved athletes staying at a local hotel near campus at a reduced rate...

"One football player who spent more than year at the hotel, the NCAA said, received an extra benefit worth $19,280."

The interview is old. The guy that did it once went to my Church in my hometown. He was always a big OM supporter when they were here. It's a pretty old article. I wonder would he repeat the interview with the same questions? I wonder would Mr Patel answer in the same way. Seems like he did economic development when he was here. I also wonder what his incentive was to provide the free rooms. Does he by chance host the out of town teams for home games? Regardless, I suppose he is always full for home games since I have seen on here that folks have to stay in Batesville and Tupelo.

RT @CoachHughFreeze: If you have facts about a violation, email compliance@hailstate.edu. If not, please don't slander the young men

Booster 6 is Chan Patel. Ole Miss agreed that Patel provided free lodging to some of Tunsil’s family members on 12 occasions from June 2013 to May 2014 valued at approximately $2,253 (Level I). Ole Miss has disassociated Patel for at least the duration of its three-year probation

OM fans: "$2,253? Big deal"

This is for just ONE player. And Ole Miss has admitted several other boosters gave $2,000+ for meals, rooms, or rides to individual recruits/players/families (including Leo Lewis).

Do Ole Miss fans really think that this booster and the other boosters listed only gave benefits to just ONE recruit or player? Or did they likely give the same benefits to many, many recruits and players and families? Think of all the big time recruits and players OM has tried to get or actually signed. 50? 100? 200?

This was so scandalous I audibly gasped.

him offering free hotel for extended periods to family of recruits and/or players is not in and of itself "scandalous" (even though it's clearly a violation). The scandalous part is that your compliance dept didn't catch it, stop it, self report it, etc.

For a school who is fighting back and trying to say you had a program in place and compliance was strong (even though you broke rules WHILE being investigated), this sends yet another message that, "nah...we good" when it comes to due diligence.

You got caught. Yes, everyone does it, but you got caught. Deal with it.

Chan Patel has frequently let families of players stay at his hotels for free so they could watch their kids play.

He also has hooked up regular students with free rooms for away games. A couple buddies of mine are Ole Miss alumni who know Chan from tailgating. We stayed for free at the Intercontinental in Nola for the Sugar Bowl.

This is only coming out because the NCAA is digging under every rock. Ole Miss was dumb enough to get busted and now everything is getting looked into. Not sure if this specific incident is handled any worse at OM than it is other schools.

When the Assistant Athletic Director who is at the very core of the AD orchestrates over a dozen Boosters and their interaction with recruits/players and family members on a wide scale for years on end, then I'd venture to say is was handled worse than other schools.

Heard he hooked them up with some incense and a footlong cold cut too

$2,200 for 12 nights is the least exorbitant thing I've ever heard. At those rates, Subway and air freshener is about all they were getting in their VIP treatment.

yep, this amounts to $183 a night after taxes and fees on a Game weekend in Oxford.
