For the record, I hope Shoop was using this interview for a raise like he did with LSU last year. That said, at the Gator fans trying to dismiss this as a shitty hire. The PSU defense was given lemons all damn year (and last year) with field position. What the defensive staff was able to accomplish, while hamstringed with fewer scholarship players and key injuries, is amazing.

Shoop took some unheralded players and made them into a good unit. For example, the nation's leading sack provider, Carl Nassib, was formerly a walk-on. Current Houston Texans coach, Bill O'Brien, was recently quoted as saying he was wrong about Nassib, thought he wouldn't amount to much. Bob Shoop, along with Sean Spencer, got the most out of Nassib, along with his defensive linemates Austin Johnson, Anthony Zettel and Garrett Sickels. I think it is fair to say, if Tennessee can pull this off, it will be a homerun hire, and the Vols can maintain a perpetual state of frick you in my eyes.

Penn State fan telling a gator fan to frick off over UT's new DC. Great time to be a Vol fan.

Sounds like it could happen today. Shoop stayed in Knoxville last night and there's rumors he will be introduced at today's basketball game

Tennessee law requires the position be open for 7 days, so Monday at the earliest.

ETA: so I'm told, could be BS

It's sounding like it.

If it does happen, it will be the strongest coordinator hire we've made in a long time.

Some interesting stats under Shoops' defense in 2015:

#5 in the Country in TFL
#2 in the Country in Sacks (Only behind Bama)
#1 in the Country in forced fumbles

Do want

Now, imagine the damage that can be done when he gets his hands on Barnett
