But but but, Bo slam dunked a stick and jumped over a car!!!!!!1

I'm fully convinced that if Bo didn't have the entertaining and wacky stories surrounding him this wouldn't be a debate. The numbers just aren't competitive.

Herschel had more rushing yards because he had a shite ton of more carries. Bo kicked Herschel's arse in average yards per carry.

Bo also shared the ball with 3 or 4 other ruining backs who went on to the NFL

I'll put a 3-time football All-American and the greatest player the history of college basketball up against Bo and Chuck any day. Barkley wasn't even a 1st team All-American.

Ok, lets just say Georgia sucked in 1980.

UGA did *not* suck in 1980. You have made an incorrect extrapolation from my comments.

quote:

How do you explain Herschel leading UGA to zero SEC losses in 81 and 82?

Because Herschel Walker *and* the Junkyard Dawg defense were both badasses?

quote:

How do you explain Herschel having a thousand more rushing yards than Bo despite playing 3 seasons (Bo obviously played 4)?

Herschel may have only played 3 seasons, but he had 344 more carries in his career than Bo did. That's the difference between being the EXCLUSIVE I-formation tailback for 3 years at UGA and Bo being a wishbone halfback for 3 of his 4 years at Auburn.

How many more rushing yards did Herschel gain in his career with those 344 extra carries that he got? 956. Just think about that. Ponder on it a while. Herschel only gained NINE-HUNDRED AND FIFTY-SIX more yards than Bo did in his career, but it took him THREE-HUNDRED AND FORTY-FOUR extra carries to do it.

I guess that's why Bo was able to average 6.6 yards per carry in his career and Herschel only 5.3. That's why Bo was able to score a TD on average every 15 rushes of the ball in his career and Herschel only every 20 rushes of the ball.

Here's another interesting fact: both Herschel and Bo played tailback in the I-formation in their Heisman Trophy seasons (Bo's senior season, Herschel's junior season).

Herschel rushed the ball 335 times in his Heisman Trophy season for 1752 yards and 16 TDs. He averaged 5.2 yards per carry and a TD every 21 carries.

Bo rushed the ball 278 times in his Heisman Trophy season for 1786 yards and 17 TD. He averaged 6.4 yards per carry and a TD every 16 carries.

quote:

Bo Jackson has cooler stories about him, Herschel was just better at football.

The data above belies your statement.

I remember watching both. Youngsters always ask me, in fact I had this convo with a couple of twenty somethings a day or two a go, who was better Herschel or Bo. No doubt it was Herschel. He was a freaking man among boys. Now, this isn't taking anything away from Bo. I love Bo, but Herschel was a superhuman freak of nature. I never saw that give up. Bo quit his senior year vs. Tennessee. They were popping his arse and he wanted no more. Never saw Herschel do that. Bo was a close second, but Herschel was number 1.

Of course opponents had to prepare for the possibility that other RB's on the field may get the ball, which was a major advantage for Bo.

So you are saying Herschel singlehandedly carried Georgia past a schedule that included about 3 teams with winning recordsi

That may very well be a justifiable point if Georgia didn't beat Notre Dame. You could say Georgia was a product of the schedule but Notre Dame beat 3 Top 10 finishers that year and Georgia beat them head to head and also went on to have big years in 81 and 82. You can only play who they put on your schedule and we whipped everyone's arse in 80

Herschel>Bo ( yes, it's close though)
Barkley>Wilkins
I am fortunate enough to have seen all four play. Every defender focused only on Herschel in a power I backfield. Against , Auburn, defenders had to watch Tommy Agee and Lionel James ( they were really good too ) out of the wishbone.
Didn't Herschel play with a broken collarbone in the title game?

I was in school with Bo Jackson. Dude was super human. So was Herschel. This is a stupid argument.
