Back in 2005.

quote:

"The national media, led by ESPN, wants to see Vince Young versus Matt Leinart in the championship game," he said. "It's going to be those two teams unless Texas or USC get upset."

"ESPN has gotten so much power lately, it's kinda scary," he said. "And most of their analysts are coaches who haven't won any games. That's why they're there. I think you know who I'm talking about."

He attacked ESPN analyst Lou Holtz, who "gets on there and talks about what a team has to do to win that game, and the guy couldn't beat anybody in our conference."

I can see why you would think that considering how much money Tubbs pumped into Arkansas' economy on his many duck hunting trips.

No coach benefited from the machine being down than he did.

And now he got fired from fricking Cincinnati.

The jokes on him. 36-0 put his arse out to pasture(pun intended).

A miracle win probably would've saved his job for a year but he was already toast.

He resigned. Not sure if he was really given the option to stay. Supposedly he offered a plan forward for '09 involving a new staff.

Tubbs was too loyal to his assistants when the hired Tony Franklin in 08 and that ultimately doomed the season as they didn't want to work with the new OC. Give Tubbs credit though for realizing he needed to transition to the spread offense.

Years of Sexton starting rumors about Tubbs leaving for other schools also eroded his support.

Other rumors of personal issues that made him want out of the Auburn area.

sounds exactly like the Fulmer situation at Tennessee that same year.

I think maybe both Tubbs and Fulmer had just run their courses. Around 10 years seems to be about the longest most coaches are at an SEC school these days.

Because someone like Walt Maddox will actually get something done as governor.

Butting heads with the AD, making bad hires on the offensive side, and he was lazy. I was sad to see Tubs go though. He was my first coach.

Because he lost the program, quit recruiting, was letting the talent drop off and the program regress, and it culminated in a shite losing season.

If you're asking so we can say "because of Saban" so you can get a boner then these things that got him fired had already started well before Saban was ever hired and it would have happened eventually anyway, but he did speed up the process because instate difference makers like Julio Jones and Courtney Upshaw were considered Auburn locks before Saban was hired and even some role players like Josh Chapman who was committed to Auburn before Saban was hired.

Holtz did a better job at South Carolina than anything Tubs did post-Auburn.

Lou Holtz had a winless season at South Carolina. Tuberville had an undefeated season. Tubs also won the SEC and won the West twice. Holtz... well, he didn't.

ETA: oh wait, POST-auburn... yeah you right bruh, you right

tbh I never understood Tubs going to Texas Tech and especially Cincinnati. Those didn't seem like a good fit for him at all.

Probably because the money coaching at those places was still better than the money he would have gotten as an analyst or whatever else he would have done
