Is it possible for any man to pass Bryant in Bama lore? If so what does Saban need to accomplish? No doubt Bear did great things over many year but three MNCs in four years has got to get Saban near equal footing, right?

I am neither mad nor trolling. I really would say that Bryant is hands down the No. 1 coach in the history of college football. If Saban wins three in four years and four overall, I think that's got to put him close though.

Saban has a much better shot at passing Bryant as the greatest college football of all-time than he does of surpassing Bryant as the greatest Alabama coach of all-time.

I was really kidding with the language but I guess it could have been taken the wrong way and detracted from my point.

I don't know if he has the "personality" to over take the bear. Bryant was and still is a symbol of alabama football. I don't know that Saban has the traits to overtake that.

Won't happen. The circumstances when Bryant was at alabama are just totally different than now. It was a different era. Back then, Alabama didn't have jack shite (hold the jokes about present day alabama til later). Last in education, last in roads, last in damn near everything in America..except football. Bear was that state's frickin savior, and for many people the ONLY thing to take pride in.

No matter how many titles Saban wins, the bear wasn't just a great coach he was transcendent. I doubt many bama fans will ever say that anyone else will surpass him.

Nick Saban - 155 career wins (64 at Alabama), 3 national championships, 3 conference championships.

Bear Bryant - 323 career wins (232 at Alabama), 6 national championships, 15 conference championships.

I don't know. How far is Saban from surpassing the Bear?

I suppose if I were an LSU fan - still miserable from Saturdays loss due to my coaches ineptitude I'd start a thread like this too.

Its ok.

Georgia folks are funny. Do you have the painted bulldog at the end of the driveway? Farm on!

I think he is the Coach Bryant of the younger BAMA fans that do not remember Bryant. Coach Saban is a great football coach and he is coaching under very different guidelines that coach Bryant did back in the day when Schollys were unlimited.

But, the old man won back to back National Championships twice plus two other and that is amazing no matter when you did it.

Saban is as polular as Bryant at this point. He pretty much could run the state of Alabama if he wanted to.

Huh? What did I say that was inaccurate? Do you disagree? And no, I don't own any painted bulldogs, and I certainly wouldn't put one at the end of the driveway. And farm on? I'm not sure what that means, but I am not a farmer, nor do I live on a farm.
