It's funny, people from outside of UA-AU always ask me about "fights" at Iron Bowls. They see the 5% of folks (4% being sidewalk bammers) that get all the airtime and they assume the state is just some sort of nuclear wasteland filled with fans gunning eachother down. I've been to the last 8 Iron Bowls and 12 overall and I've never seen as much as an argument.

As with most things the media loves the loud, stupid, foul people way more than the civil, boring, good ones. Hell, most of these people are brothers and sisters and cousins.

Nice move by Sims. Kid is a study of patience, perseverance, and hard work. This is a story that should be told along with the troubled players.

I say that because they will never stop telling the Winston type stories. Why don't they share the Blake Sims story with the same intensity?

It isn't nearly as bad as the media portrays it (shocker). It's the trolls on the internet and hicks that call Finebaum from the jungles of Alabama that make it appear worse than it actually is.

Sims is a great representative for the university. Classy.

When the qb battle was still going on he told Coker he was going to throw a TD, and when Coker threw a TD, Blake was the first to congratulate him.

Just watched his press clips from the UF game. Deflected all of the praise, accepted any blame. Genuinely likable guy, which is a breath of fresh air after the rumors of how AJ acted around his teammates. LINK

Yep - just really happy for him. It may all fall apart but at the very least he has had a great first few games.

Honestly can't remember the last player or group of players I felt more happy for than Blake. Probably the Shula guys who won under Saban in 2008 and 2009.

Blake Sims, from all accounts, is the very picture of a leader in the locker room. After his injury yesterday, when Coker threw that TD pass to Cooper in the end zone, the first thing Sims did when he came out of the locker room was run over and congratulate Coker.

No matter what happens from here on out, he'll definitely be one of the team's permanent captains at the end of the year.

I vaguely recall reading that Sims is enormously popular with his teammates. Making sure Sims got a fair shake to win the starting job over the Great White Hope in Coker might be Saban's best coaching job so far this season. It's always wise to feel the pulse of the team when you're a coach.

Also - Blake Sims is TI's cousin and while is from mountain town Gainesville he has Bankhead in his blood.

Can't wait to download "Heisman 6" on TI's next album.
