Alabama vs. Auburn is more fierce, but UM vs. OSU is more of a national appeal and such.

Right now AU-Bama by a LOT.
Just look at the tv ratings. IB is probably watched by 5x as many people. Maybe more. 2013 set all time ratings for a college game at the time.
Isn't even comparable right now.

I agree with that. I see Michigan, Ohio State, & Alabama as national brands.

I think a lot of that changes with Harbaugh. Maybe not this season, but after a couple of years I could see the Meyer Harbaugh matchup be something fierce

Traditionally OSU/UM. But the Big Ten beats the SEC in just about anything involving "tradition." The Rust Belt is not what it used to be though. That game has not mattered since 2006. The Iron Bowl is by far the best rivalry today. It may change again with Harbaugh/Meyer though.

I would put it no greater in the minds of college fans who are not fans of either school , being greater than any other rivaly.
The point of the OP is valid regarding the players rivalry. UM-tOSU is greater in that facility. I think part of that has to do with how much AU-UA has to build their teams with players from other states. Out of state players do not see the game and different than a normal game, because they didn't grow up with it being big to them.
Urban Meyer has been recruiting players nationwide in order to build a powerhouse at Ohio State. Harbaugh fixing to do the same.

Though this is likely to change within the next 5 years (aside from the 1/2 2006 game), OSU/Mich has always been a noon game.
Ratings will be lower since the west coast may not be tuning in fully at 9am

Harbaugh won't be at UM in 4 years, so his affect on the rivalry will be negligible.
IB is much bigger than UM/OSU. The B1G was bordering on irrelevancy until OSU won the whole enchilada this season.

All the "big" rivalries are the same. People think there is something a little more special about their neck of the woods, but there really isn't.
