Academics is the biggie. BYU's research and grad school programs are lacking and the church has no plans to change it's focus. Then, there are "human rights" issues....the LDS Church's history of racism and hardline on gay rights.

Thanks for the info. I've never heard of Mormons being associated with racism... but on the other hand 1) I wouldn't notice and 2) I don't think I've ever run across a black Mormon, so there's that.

At some point, either the name needs to change to reflect 10 teams or they need to add two.

I mean it's that the Big 10 has 12 teams and the Big 12 has 10 teams.

Shea McClellin went #7 in the draft, I believe. BSU finds these diamonds though. We had Mark Asper (5th round OL). Cody Pickett is the big name though.

Why should the Aggies care about the Big 12 or whatever they are now?

Because we are surrounded by them? Because we have family and friends that attended those universities.. Because we compete with them for local state recruits.

I could go on and on and then eventually hit the fact that we've played them all many times.

BYU does not play on Sundays...ever.

Boise State is putrid in non football sports and academics.

Boise and BYU want no part of a big-time conference. They don't have the depth of talent for a full season of that type of competition--even the lowly Big-12

Google "Blacks and the Priesthood". Blacks were excluded from attaining their priesthood until the ban was removed in 1978. Skin color associated with righteousness is even in their canonized scripture.

BYU/Boise State would be better fits for the PAC-12

The answer to your question is:

There is absolutely no salvation for the Big XII. Its a decaying conference. The only game that matters is Texas vs OU and that game has completely lost its appeal. Texas is not even competitive in that game anymore.

I went to go visit my friend in Austin a couple of weeks ago. We started talking about football. He started saying that Oklahoma vs Oklahoma State was a pretty important game and that the rivalries between Texas, Baylor, Tech and TCU are pretty relevant.

Its like trying to argue with a 12 year old child. It does not make any sense. Fans of schools in the Big XII live in alternate realities. They are currently in the deny phase, making statements such as "Big XII is the strongest conference top to bottom" etc, etc.

Its all a big fricking joke. You have a conference that added a school in fricking. West. Virginia. The Big 12 strives on being a regional conference. They added TCU, a school that is abysmal in sports not named football and maybe baseball here or there. A school that went through some of their best football programs' years, yet could not even fill up their 50 k stadium. Its like the SWC all over again.

The next expansion targets I see for the Big 12 are Tulane and Southern Miss.

I could see them adding BYU. Not sure about Boise, seems too far away.

Maybe Cincinnati.

There has also been talk of poaching from the ACC and AAC. I doubt they could get Florida State of Clemson. But they could get any one of the following:

USF
UCF
SMU
UH
Tulane
S. Miss
Memphis

But besides BYU, there isn't a "name" school out there worth adding that is realistic to go to the Big XII. All those schools they want and can't get (like Clemson, Arkansas, Fla St) and a few of their own (Texas and OU, maybe Okie light) are better off elsewhere.

Thanks but no thanks. There's plenty of racism to go around here at home w/o me picking on Mormons. I was content thinking Cal and Stanford don't want them over the gay thing. Whatever. They'd be a good addition to the Big 12, but I can't see them wanting to do that. It's just too damn far. WVU is going to figure that out sooner or later with their travel budget eating up so much of the athletic budget.
