I'm afraid of what the A&M version of this thread will look like.

Clearly A&M had a disappointing year, but in all fairness I don't think many, if anyone would have honestly predicted the splash both teams have made in the last two years, both athletically and the attention given that would not have otherwise existed. Seems to me from afar, it has been a great move for both universities.

Kind of like Jethro from the Beverly Hillbillies. Strong as an ox, dumb as a box rocks but has more money than it knows how to spend it.

If their stadium wasn't HS football caliber then I can bet they get more respect round here. Seems to
Me that they just started taking football more seriously.

It was kinda impossible to not notice the upper deck construction being added to our stadium during the A&M game was it not? You want improvements to our stadium you're getting it, so enough already.

Secondly, our stadium held, and was drawing, crowds of 75,000 in the 1970s. In fact our game against Bama in 1978 had 75,000 people crammed into the stands. How many SEC stadiums were over 80,000 at that point? Honestly?

Fact is we took football VERY seriously in the 1950s, 60s, 70s and had one of the larger stadiums in the country. We had a dormant period in the 80s and 90s but are expanding again now that we are winning again.

Frankly, I think posters here just go by the visual of Mizzou having a lower bowl and you all are obsessed with upper decks and think not having one equates to not being "big time." But fact is Mizzou's lower bowl sans upper deck has been able to seat 70,000+ for years, meaning its a much bigger lower bowl than what existed at most SEC stadiums. Most of you guys HAD to build upper decks sooner than we did b/c your lower decks tended to seat 50k or below.

I have been most impressed with Mizz Defense. They are absolutely 100% SEC quality. This season, UGAs defense is looking more ACC Big 12 than ever. Maybe they stole our mojo

Here's my take.

I thought Missouri was a good addition, but I certainly didn't expect them to compete for the SEC Title in 2 years. Arkansas did it after four seasons, and it took South Carolina 18. I figured Mizzou would be at this level in 8-10.

Missouri's hidden compliments to the conference are another decent basketball team, and some very good non-revenue sports like volleyball (34-0, props), softball. Baseball is going to struggle, but they have had some decent teams in the last 15 years.

They also have the best journalism school in the country, which will continue to press out journalists that won't be anti-SEC.

The Vandy/South Carolina comparison is spot on. I thought they would be a 5-7 to 7-5 team for a few years. Granted, Mizzou's SEC East title feels a little like MSU's 1998 SEC West title. Other than South Carolina, the East was very, very weak. Florida and Tennessee not bowl eligible? Georgia with four losses? Alabama, LSU and Auburn all had losing records the year that State won the West. Arkansas was a lot like South Carolina was this year, and Ole Miss was Georgia.

I am glad they are in the conference and have been very impressed with their enthusiasm and commitment to elevating their standards. They have put a lot of money into their facilities that we'll see next year in their football stadium.

As far as their southern pedigree, they are Southern and have a nasty bitter rivalry with their neighbor state Kansas that goes back to Pre-War of Northern Agression.

When the powers in the East stop derping around, they'll go back to being meh in football. They added strength in basketball, though.

This is stupid. It's popular on tRant, but our home football attendance ranked 23rd in the nation last year, a year we were under .500.

But what did it rank in the SEC?

Problem with this is. We haven't been "meh" in football for a long time. We've been pretty good for the last 8 years, even if not in the elite. We've won 10 games 4 of the past 7 years, won the majority of our bowl games, and have sent a slew of first rounders to the league in recent years. Not sure why people thought we were going to be a doormat, that just wasn't reality. Under Pinkel we will compete for the East most years. We will also see a great boost in recruiting next year from this run, and our staff is as good at player development as ANY in the country. We have the best DL coach in the country. We win games with a roster full of projects, we'll win more with more ready made players at our disposal. We aren't going anywhere unless we fvck up the hire after Pinkel.

As for the stadium. Next year capacity will be 77k (top 20 in the country), and 4 years from now about 84k (top 15ish). Not the biggest in the SEC by any stretch, but legitimate.

IF you notice the which fans jump on Mizzou the most its the programs which are being passed up by Mizzou in the pecking order in the SEC.

LSU,Bama,Georgia,Auburn,Florida fans have a much different approach to interacting with Mizzou fans than the others.

Its interesting but not unexpected.

No. But I looked it up, y'all actually ranked 24th and that was good for 10th in tSEC last year, behind Tennessee and Arkansas (both had terrible seasons as well).

I'm a cards fan, but even the World Series doesn't compare to an average game at Arrowhead. If the Chiefs ever make the Super Bowl again this state will explode. Mizzou v. ATm was bigger than any World Series game. You just cannot compare football and baseball.
