Requires 9 conference games and REQUIRES at least one OOC game a year vs a big 5 opponent.

Kudos to them...I hope the SEC follows suit.No excuse in the world NOT to schedule at least one Big 5 opponent
OOC.

Once the SEC realizes they will make more money adding a 9th conference game, they will follow suit. They already require a power 5 OOC opponent every year.

We are way behind the times now.

No reaosn to not be on a 9-game conference schedule and play 1 "name" OOC opponent each year. Not only does it show we're aren't "afraid" and "Gaming the system" but is also creates BETTER football. It's still absurd how right now you have to wait up to like 6 years to play a team in the other division now.

Its gonna choke some budgets of FCS and non power 5 D1 schools...Conference USA and the MAC are gonna take a hit.

My bad but I don't see where MSU or Vandy had a power 5 game OOC.

As an alumni of an FCS school I hate to see this happen. The money and exposure are good for those programs.

As I college football fan, though, this is a great thing. The more competitive games the better the product.

All you have to do is look at OSU's pathetic schedule this year to see why they're doing this.

At least 4 teams in the SEC would be in the playoffs with that BS schedule.

It just passed a few months ago plus it takes time to schedule.

Do you think a rule like that gets implemented and immediately teams can find a power 5 team to play right then and there? That shite takes time. You can't just call up a school and say "yeah we're going to play you this year on this date. Cool? Cool."

This would also allow Alabama or Auburn to move to the east and Mizzou to the west.

No its not gonna happen immediately for obvious reasons but it will eventually be the norm in power 5 IMO.

LINK
1. Schedules are made years in advance and the SEC rule just went into place last year and doesn't take effect until 2016 to allow for scheduling.
2. That link has a list of who has scheduled who so far.

If the power 5 conferences go to 9 conference games, at least 1 power 5 OOC game, and no FCS, it should end up being a wash for the non-power D1 programs. Basically, the FCS cupcake is replaced by a conference game.

And if the SEC stays at 8 conference games, it may actually help the non-power D1 teams. They would be the replacements for the FCS beatings.

But overall, I agree with the OP. I hate the current scheduling model and I have no interest in watching Mizzou stomp Murray State unless it's in basketball.
