It's either: "An LSU..." OR "A Louisiana State..."
No both still use "a", when abbreviated the "L" is still pronounced like a consonant.

You can't be this stupid. You just can't be.

Try this, "The word 'Louisiana' starts with a 'L'." versus, "The word 'Louisiana' starts with an 'L'."
And if you're just trolling for English lessons, well...
...that's just sad.

I say 2014. Was #1 in the polls for most of the season and was the #1 seed in the playoffs. Won the SEC Championship and that's really the national championship. Oh and if we had the old system for one more year we would have played FSU for the title and would have dominated that game. We finished #4 in the final AP poll and I'm sure we can find some sportswriter to award us the title.
1941 we finished 3rd in the SEC and #20 in the final AP poll. I've never understood why we claim this one.
You have sound reasoning for this and so I am convinced.
Congratulations University of Alabama on your 2014 National Championship.

I don't understand why this is so hard for people.
You don't get to just make shite up. You are AWARDED a national championship. Since there are many polls, you have to decide whether to "claim" a title based on the legitimacy of the poll who put you first. You don't get to just decide you were national champions because you can make a case for being the best team.
It is an OPINION which polls are to be considered authoritative. Personally, I consider any AP or UPI/Coaches poll to be authoritative (whether you personally like the fact that it may be before the bowls, or not). To me, the only authoritative poll in the BCS era is the BCS championship. And in the early years, before the AP and UPI, they still played football and you could still be the national champions. You have to decide the weight to put on the Dunkel, or Sagarin, or FWA, or whatever.
I think it is a big, unnecessary controversy for Alabama to claim 1941. We weren't the best team that year, it's obvious, so one minor poll declaring Alabama the champions can't outweigh what was clear to everyone else (including the AP, who I believe had us 20th or so).

Now I'm going to have to take your side here:
Except for a small semantic issue:
I would say a school chooses whether to 'acknowledge' an award or not - and not so much 'claim' it.
The NCAA acknowledges some titles and not others, and a school is not required to acknowledge the same ones that the NCAA does. Take the 1908 football title for example. The NCAA acknowledges LSU as a title holder for 1908, yet LSU does not since the title was awarded retroactively and wasn't awarded at the time. The 1935 basketball title was awarded at the time, yet the NCAA does not acknowledge that award to LSU, but LSU does.
