The Heisman comment was an add-on......

Take Cam away, what is Auburn's record?

Again, you're changing the argument from what you originally asked. Just change the OP to :

Best season by an undefeated Heisman winner

and you'll get the answer you want.

7-5 probably.

Take Barry away from that 1988 OSU team and they are probably 3-9.

I will admit, Sanders game by game stats are just freaky.

Herschel pretty much did. They won a title with him.

Your OP said best single season college football player ever and based on that criteria Barry Sanders put up video game stats in 1988 and continued his dominance in the NFL. He is and will always be my pick to that question.

Change your question to best season by a player on an undefeated team and I probably change my answer to Newton.

The same thing was said about Tebow over and over. Similar comments have been made for decades about the current flavor of the week. Brown, Cannon, Ernie Davis, Simpson, Dickerson,White,Jackson,Testaverde,Walker, Sanders,Bush etc. The beat goes on and on in college football. Cam had a great season. Best ever? That's in the eye of the beholder and there is no right or wrong answer when it comes to opinions. I did think he had the single-best opponents game against LSU that I've witnessed and we are talking decades of football. Ironically, I still think the best college player I ever saw was Bo Jackson.

He is up there but I will never forget seeing Shaun Alexander go off in Tiger Stadium.

292 yards on 20 carries and 4 TD's

Barry Sanders in 198whatever where he broke the school rushing record three times.

FWIW, Herschel Walker was the undeniable best player on UGA's undefeated 1980 NC team. He probably should have won the Heisman over George Rogers and he played most of the Sugar Bowl AFTER dislocating his shoulder and popping it back in to get back in the game. So yeah, Cam isn't special in that regard.

I was at that horrid display of Tiger football as well. Shaun was great but he did that against a much lesser defense than Cam's game IMO.

Agree - Cam / took over games in multiple ways - running and throwing - no player has ever been that good at both

agree. Not only are his stats unreal, but no one player has had a bigger impact on his team winning than Cam Newton did this season.

Cam Newton is a Beast and has a season like I have never seen before. I have been a huge LSU/College Football fan for a long time and IMHO he has had the greatest single season I have ever seen.

Cam Newton

I will contend Tebow had the best career and was a much better role model. (Keep the 'lack of facts' BS to yourselves.......the kid was/is dirty. In all fairness, many are.) BUT, this year Newton was the most impressive college football player I have ever seen. He could not be stopped.

I agree. He is the best I have seen in 40 yrs of watching college football.

Newton
Jackon
Tebow
Sanders
Walker
