Don't know really about the others, but 2011 LSU is the best runner-up and it isn't even close.

2002 Miami and 2005 USC are head and shoulders above everyone else on this list.

That game would be epic.

Between the 2 of them, I'll take 2002 Miami, but it would be damn close.

and what would 01 miami's D do to that lsu offense?

Since the Honey Badger would have scored 2 touchdowns on punt returns, LSU wouldn't have needed offense.

2002 Miami gave up 45 points to VT for Christ's sake. Other games were blowouts yeah, but VT was in the late teens when ranked against Miami that year. Or at least that was their final ranking. 2011 LSU would've destroyed both Miami squads. They're overhyped because of talent now in the NFL and a weak arse conference.

i'll listen to any argument that 11 lsu would beat 02 miami, but to say they would have destroyed 01 miami is an absolute joke and you lose all credibility. 01 miami's defense was just as good as the alabama team that shut out LSU, and the miami offense was light years better than alabama's.

LSU lost that championship the week of the Western Kentucky game.

Jarrett Lee...9-0, leading the SEC in pass efficiency...take a seat kid. Jefferson is starting from here on out.

It was the beginning of the end from that point on.

2001 Miami is the GOAT of the BCS era.

I agree with you that 2011 Bama was not the best of the BCS era, but neither was 2001 Miami. It wasn't like they destroyed every one...Va Tech and Boston College lost games late with Miami that year and both, but particularly BC, should've probably won...and it didn't help that, in the BCS Championship game, Miami played the worst team (Nebraska) to ever appear in that game during the entire BCS era. And while Miami was undefeated, they only beat 1 top 10 team, and that was the Nebraska team which finished the season at #8...

That Miami team is remembered more for their numerous players that went on to star in the NFL as opposed to what they did as a college football team. When the talking heads mention that team, they start naming the players, not the team's accomplishments...they probably had the best talent of the era, but that doesn't necessarily mean the best team of the era. 2001 Miami was a great team, I just don't think they were the GOAT, BCS era or otherwise...

fair argument, but miami was still being mentioned as one of the possible GOAT's during that season, after they beat 2 top 15 ranked teams in consecutive games by a combined score of 124-7. All the talk of them being great isn't only due to their players success in the NFL.
