Reed is/was one of the best safeties to ever play the game.

He's the best I've ever seen play the position. If Kenny Phillips could have been an 1/8 of what he was/is, I would have been thrilled.

Fair enough. I actually think this is a good question for a thread.

I dunno - there have been a lot of them over the years - many of them All-Americans or All-Pro.

Michael & Peter Boulware
The Geathers boys
Stephen Davis
Albert Haynesworth
Richard Seymore
Chris Hope
Shaun Ellis
Eric Berry
Victor & Marshall Riley
Vonnie Holiday
Doc Blanchard
Tony Rice
Bobby Ingram

There was the LB at Vandy, the QB at Penn State ... Richardson. Courtney Brown at Penn State. The CB at Ohio State. Players at Bama. Hell, I can't remember them all. Stanley Morgan at Tennessee ... wasn't he a South Carolinian? The RB at Oregon not so long ago. And oh, how could I almost forget Freddie Soloman who was perhaps the best of them all.

I'm forgetting quite a few but we used to lose a lot. I'm not even counting so many of the All-Conference and All-American OLinemen we used to lose like Gideon Brown, Kevin Long (I think was his name at FSU) ... plus the kid out of Orangeburg, started with an A like Alex maybe?

I remember this ... I think it was the '98 National Championship game between FSU and Tennessee, if I remember correctly, and there were something like nine (or perhaps it was eleven) starters on the field from the state of SC.

Thankfully, most are staying home these days and that has made a major difference for both SCAR and the taterheads. And the best part for SCAR is that, right now, the 6th, 7th and 8th graders are growing-up Gamecock fans. That will pay dividends in the future.

Ooooops. .... didn't see the "SEC" part either. My bad.

And yes, no doubt, forgot about AJ Green. Which brings up a sore spot I've always had with the winningest high school coach in America - John McKissick at Summervlle. He sent as ton of players out of state over the years and he is somewhat resented for that very reason and rightfully so IMHO.

Dewayne Rudd and DeShea townsend, both from South Panola HS, probably would have been Rebels had it not been for looming probation.

Although Technically he went HS in New Orleans, the Mannings are a MS family, so I feel like Peyton Manning getting away (for same reason as above) was a tragedy.

Haha I'm flattered but this is probably the second time I've ever responded to you about anything. Just pointing out the unnecessary explatives you spew when someone cracks a joke at you on a message board. Carry on with your thread.
