Shaq is a one-word celebrity like Madona, Seal, Bono, etc..........

That's big time. He's also funny.

Robert Horry isn't even the best player to come out of Alabama. Antonio McDyess, Gerald Wallace and Latrell Sprewell were all much better players and that's just three off the top of my head.

Sprewell is a head case, McDyess a journeyman backup center and I never heard of Gerald Wallace, though I've lived in Alabama almost all my life.

Robert Horry (Big Shot) I think has more rings than any NBA player since the Bill Russell Celtics.

I KNOW he has more rings than Michael, Coby or Shaq. Maybe Rodman has as many.

He won his rings on the BACKS of Hakeem, Duncan, Kobe and Shaq. The man was a role player his entire career who had a knack for knocking down key shots at the end of big games. Nothing more than that. Antonio McDyess was a monster and on verge of becoming a superstar before the injuries hit. You don't remember Gerald Wallace? He was the consensus #1 player coming out of high school and attended Alabama for one year. He's one of the more underrated players in the NBA today. I'll give you Sprewell because he was an inefficient chucker after all but the other two men were clearly better players.

If you are throwing in Moncrief, I want to add Scottie Pippen.

Pippen never played in the SEC. He played at Central Arkansas or some other directional school from Arkansas. Either way, he was never a SEC player.

PIstol pete, Bob Pettit, and Shaq were all 3 voted into the top 50 NBA players of all time. As far as basketball skills go I would put Pistol and Pettit as the best.

3rd post from the bottom! I was waiting for his name to be tossed in. Not that I think he was the best, that goes to Neon, but Pippen has gotta be in some of these lists.

edit: thought SP played at Arky.

I wouldn't include Moncrief in the discussion either since he played his career in the SWC. I wouldn't call anyone who played anything for Arky, prior to 91, as an SEC great.

That's SWC history.

Shaq, Pistol Pete, and Pettit. All of these guys were stars and leaders on the court.

Horry was a great player, but he was a role player. He could definitely knock down some big shots though.
