How many points did your offense score?
Let's look at those other 3 losses by UGA:
Boise State: OK, this was the season-opener.....I'm sure half of the UGA defense was suspended for this game, and one can make the argument that the best team wouldn't be represented so early in the season. However, UGA at one point was tied with BSU 7-7, then didn't score again until the score was 28-7 Blue Ponies. One could say that the Boise D was easing off by then. Boise out-scored UGA 21-14 in the 2nd half...
LSU:
UGA took an early 10-0 lead after the 1st qtr., then was out-scored 42-0 the rest of the way. Allowing 42 points in 3 quarters (!!!!)
Mich. St.:
This game went to overtime, so on first glance appears to be a hard-fought game. But UGA held a 16-0 halftime lead....and then was out-scored 33-14 the rest of the way.
I'm sure the UGA fans will continue to respond to my post by making more snide comments about my team, but the evidence is pretty damning: UGA either had leads or were tied in all their games, and their defense gave up the lead in all 4 games. NOT by turnovers or poor special teams, although those played roles in the games.
That's why I'm a bit skeptical at this point. IMO, we need to see more. Unfortunately, next season may not be enough to show us.....

No I got the point, he was saying that Melvin Ingram juked Boykin. I'm saying he didn't, as well are others, cased closed.

This is their "All American CB" getting juked (or "missing a tackle" like you say) against our freaking defensive lineman. Are you serious?
You clearly don't know what a juke is.

and to answer your question there is a reason and while it may not be respected here this is why IMO. it was the offense and STs constant struggles.
Boise State: first game running the hurry up and all georgia ends up doing is record timed 3 and outs. our defense had lived on the field for 3 quarters and actually had held boise in check but then were wore down by a lack of help from our offense and STs. our offense didn't start scoring until the end and if you notice about all of our scores came on deep passes or long runs. no time consuming drives
USCe: STs nightmare, offense acting as a siv and turning the ball over left and right and gifting points. the offense also was inconsistent throughout the day, not really gaining any steam until the second half. thus 2 games in a row our talented yet maybe not so deep defense faltered under duress.
LSU: hot start from our offense but just like usual they completely left the building. no long drives, nothing but hurried up 3 and outs and a punt. LSU's physicality wore down Georgia far quicker than the other teams and by the end of the 3rd quarter our defense was completely gassed and our offense had only gotten even worse. that game was over as soon as the honey badger returned that punt and chavis made his adjustments.
MSU: the offense once again gave way after our defense stifled state for 3 or so quarters. and blair walsh
the issue i saw wasn't our defense's abilities but instead our depth and conditioning. this year we return pretty much everyone and we add in some younger guys. we have only gotten deeper and better so it probably can finally be like an LSU or Alabama and act as a crutch to an ailing offense. last year we just weren't ready to be a defensive or offensive team, we could only succeed with a combination of both and often time our offense gave out thus leaving our defense in a tough position it wasn't mature/deep enough for yet.
i'd also like to think that our offense will also improve with the addition in the running game. really, it is kinda hard for Georgia to be much worse running the ball this year. everything on our offense improves outside our OL and they weren't even good to begin with.
it isn't a grantee we will improve talent-wise but it is a guarantee that we are deeper.

They'll have the best pass rush for sure with Taylor and Clowney but best defense is pushing it.

All I am saying is don't count out of top four consideration. That's all. If you don't believe me, I don't give a shite. They're in the discussion whether you like it or not.

Ok. I'll take it under consideration. I just don't really know much about MSU's D.

Exactly. Everyone likes to make comments like "the rest don't matter" when they don't know enough about the defenses to even make that comment.

Now hold on there for a second, I said "Don't care about the rest". Which I don't. I didn't say y'all didn't matter.

That poll is retarded. Everyone knows that it is going to be UGA. Duh.

And yet I find this:
Possession Time (BSU - UGA)... 33:46 26:14
1st Quarter................. 6:52 8:08
2nd Quarter................. 8:38 6:22
3rd Quarter................. 7:50 7:10
4th Quarter................. 10:26 4:34
After 3 quarters: BSU: 23:20, UGA: 21:40
Isn't that strange??

USCe: STs nightmare
South Carolina also had 2 INTs, you know. UGA's average of field position per offensive possession was 35.1, compared to USC's being 31.0....and THAT includes USC starting at the UGA 5 yd line after the Gilmore FR: UGA started in USC territory 3 times - at the SC 42 on a Garcia INT (UGA got their 2nd FG off this to make the score 6-0), then at the SC 43 and SC37 on big kick returns from Smith and Boykins. UGA actually had MUCH better starting FOP for their offense, based on the poor kicking and coverage of the USC special teams. How's THAT for an "about-face"?
UGA had their opportunities on USC TOs and poor STs play as well. They just didn't capitalize like we did with ours. UGA also held the time of possession over USC in each of the first 3 quarters of our game...
quote:
LSU: hot start from our offense but just like usual they completely left the building. no long drives, nothing but hurried up 3 and outs and a punt. LSU's physicality wore down Georgia far quicker than the other teams and by the end of the 3rd quarter our defense was completely gassed and our offense had only gotten even worse. that game was over as soon as the honey badger returned that punt and chavis made his adjustments.
This is also interesting...did you know that UGA won the time of possession over LSU for all 4 quarters of this game? Georgia held a 36:36 to 23:24 edge over LSU for the game. That's almost an entire EXTRA QUARTER of football over LSU!!!!
LSU did benefit from TOs and STs play: had TDs with a punt return and a pick-6, and scored off of a Murray fumble. Then all they did was run the ball. Against your defense. But they didn't have a ton of plays.
And yet you say it was the UGA defense that was worn out?? That's very interesting....
quote:
MSU: the offense once again gave way after our defense stifled state for 3 or so quarters. and blair walsh
the issue i saw wasn't our defense's abilities but instead our depth and conditioning.
Apparently so....again with this game, there's no real apparent dominance of time of possession, as UGA again held the ball longer than their opponent for the game. That doesn't seem to be the issue....
UGA's defense SHOULD'NT be worn down in games where their offense has the ball longer than their opponent does, but I guess that's what happened consistently last season. But it doesn't sway my concerns about the UGA defense, only confirms them....

They should have the 3rd best defense in the SEC. They'll be stout for sure.
