That sucks.
Yeah, kind of does, in light of depth.

Evidently not so much, being pushed by freshmen.
Still could have used the depth though.

That is the pic I think of every time I heard his name- I guess it sort of sticks with you.

Wasn't Otha one of the more exciting players on defense Arky fans were talking about before all this happened?
Posted on 8/11/14 at 7:17 pm to hawgfaninc
I would care but I got called out recently for trying to stir a little inner hogsession.

He was his true freshman year. Then he kept getting hurt and regressing.

Les Miles is losing control of Bert's appetite.

I'm fine with being hogsessed. They provide hours of laughs.

I remember it from when he was being recruited. So fricking country

Potential wise he was a fan favorite, things just never came together for him.

Has anybody checked to see if this moves the line on the game?

I can't imagine it would. He was a 2nd/3rd string LB.

Not anyone who actually followed practices. Casual fans were more enamored with his 4* rating out of high school so you would see people always saying he would be a starter. That wasn't even remotely close to being the case though. He got hurt his freshman year and has never been the same player since. He has been buried on the depth chart for the last year and half and was losing more ground by the day this fall. That's not a good thing considering it's not like we're talking about one of the upper half LB corps in the SEC.

Otha and AJ Turner were both named to the SEC ALL-Freshman team. This may have something to do with "casual fan's" enamoring over a them.
Turner's freshman year- Turner finished the season with the fifth-most tackles on the team with 53. He recorded a season-high 12 tackles in the final game against then-No. 7 LSU.
Otha's freshman year- •Peters appeared in 10 games and started the final three games of his true freshman campaign
•He was named to the SEC All-Freshman Team after recording 32 tackles, 0.5 for loss with 0.5 sack, and two quarterback hurries
•He made a career-high eight tackles and added one quarterback hurry in the first start of his career at No. 12 South Carolina
•He matched that same stat line the next week with eight tackles and one quarterback hurry at Mississippi State
Spin it about a 4 star flopping, but 2 freshman all-sec LB'ers have left under Bert's reign.

Yes the truth is spin. The kid is buried on the depth chart and falling by the day. What he did two years ago doesn't matter to what he did in practice last week. He wouldn't be the first all-SEC freshman to not pan out. Shannon is one of the better LB coaches in the country so I doubt it's just because he doesn't like Otha like you seem to be implying.

Never addressed any of this, I addressed your post about "Casual fans" and their expectations of a player coming in as a 4*. I was saying that most of them were after he earned Freshman All-SEC. That is all, never once said anything about today or even last year.

Freshman of the Year is a team honor you earn by simply signing with a school that is desperate enough to start true freshmen at LB for most/all of the year.
What other SEC freshmen did they need to beat out for that honor?
If you finished third in the voting, you probably finished last as well.
