Maybe we can squeeze 5-6 good years out of him before the wheels come off like UCLA did.

quote:Kinda sounds like Howland will fit right in with Calapari, Pearl, Tyndall. All have some shady stuff in their past, some more serious than others but shady none the less.
Yeah, look at the end of that era. There was a massive amount of smoke re: that last class of his. Suspensions, transfers, two inquiries regarding academic eligibility before the kids ever played a second of college ball, a Dad who allegedly may have lied about his son's age and amateur status before signing on with UCLA, and you can say what you want, but the trend of his Bruin tenure-while not an elevator shaft headed down-was nowhere near what you may try to spin it as.

Is Howland really that good?
On March 25, 2013, Howland was fired by UCLA.[11][12] In his 10 years with the Bruins, he had a .685 winning percentage, which ranked sixth of the eight coaches that followed Wooden.[13]
He is a dynamite coach who will really resurrect MSU's basketball program so long as the power brokers at MSU leave him alone. He will bring in some major talent.

Congratulations MSU fans with this tremendous hire! I didn't think y'all had it in ya!! Calamari, Mike Anderson, Donovan, Pearl, Howland ... SEC basketball is bout to get nasty good.
You forgot Frank Martin ... but no biggie, you are forgiven. You know not what you do.

How in the heck did he get so close to 50% winning percentage with 3 final fours?

Crazy Bill Walton said that his style was boring and if he were in charge he would change the coach. Later on UCLA decided to make that decision.

But if his style will get MSU wins, then it's a good decision on their part.
