He was in the middle of talking to John Croyle (father of Brodie Croyle) when Jimmy Carter called to congratulate him on winning the ‘79 national championship. Bryant refused to pause his conversation with a former player to take the phone call.

Didn't Carter go to Tech?

Yeah, I'm not surprised Bryant didn't want to talk to a Yellow Jacket.

He helped Ford run against him. Guessing that might be part of the reason...

There was no one like the Bear. Despite all of Saban's success at Alabama, to me, Alabama will always be framed by the late, great Bear Bryant. Always. He was a true gentleman.

I know message boards are tough to read sarcasm sometimes, but please tell me this is a joke.

Oh, I know what you're talking about, I've heard it. But, he was nice to me when I met him. And, I still remember how gracious he was to UGA, Vince Dooley and our fans after the Dawgs had just beaten Alabama, 21-0, in 1976. So, I'll leave it there.

Nevertheless, for me when I think of UA, I think of Bear Bryant first, not Nick Saban. Can't help it.

I liked it better when he told the 'fair weather fans' to 'go to hell' on his TV show in..I think it was 1970.

I have the utmost respect for him. But not sure I’d refer to him in this light.
