No I def think robbery etc is crime. I also think robbers take advantage of tourists in alot of other cities. The fights are no doubt fueled by alcohol, Ill give you that. Yes the city celebrates decadence and lewdness, but this crossed the line on both.

To a great extent, they do. When you have over 90 crimes per square mile in a city, and the rest of the state has a rate of one third of that, a huge portion of blame can be laid on the city and their laws.

But there are tons of fights and other criminal acts, due to their behavior while publicly intoxicated. And I'm sure there is a large criminal element that takes advantage of people in this condition also, robbery, theft, assault, rape... criminal database stats will bear this out if you care to take the time to look.

I have taken time to look and the crime downtown is pretty miniscule compared to te rest of the city.

Also, a quick FYI: crime statistics of tourist sections of any large city will often be misleading and manipulated. Researching criminal statistics available will make the French Quarter out to be safer than it is.

And I said he deserved what is coming to him. But the city is also to blame for contributing to the atmosphere that allows the lewdness. That's all I'm saying.

Dude the laws in this city don't allow crime holy shite. Why do you keep making the argument, as if we say get drunk and rob people. Most the crime isn't being committed by people who are partying or drunk. Blame the shitty public school system, the police, parents whatever. But don't blame NOLA's drinking laws.

Yup. Heroin, which goes quite poorly with alcohol, contributes to quite a bit of the crime in the city.

All this political posturing is nonsense. All the guy really needs is a serious arse whipping. Why over-complicate things.

Exactly. And the folks arguing that people should be able to get their drunk on in public and act fools, arguing that someone did something foolish, while drunk, is getting ridiculous.

No, I don't think he was sober. I'm talking about the people robbing others, murders etc. That's what makes up most NOLA's crime rate. Like I said though, there were alot of drunk people in town and there will continue to be. Yet somehow incidents like this will remain pretty isolated. Maybe just maybe it's because other people can handle themselves.

National median for crime in the U.S. is 41.8 crimes per square mile. For NOLA, it's 96 crimes per square mile. There are alot of other cities with as large or larger tourism attractions that don't have as high a rate as NOLA. Why do you think that is?

A good comparison would be Orlando or Vegas. Two big convention cities. I have no idea what the comparision is, but worth looking into

I think it just proves tourists and their drinking have little to nothing to do with the crime of New Orleans.
