When I first looked at the bracket for the CWS I thought Vandy had no chance to make it back to the CWS Finals. There was no way Florida was gonna lose two games playing Miami, Arkansas and Virginia. And how could Vandy survive having to play TCU, LSU and Cal State Fullerton. And I never dreamed there would be a repeat matchup between Vandy and Virginia. Neither team would survive their bracket.

Then, once again, the Baseball Gods intervened and gave us what baseball is all about, any team can win on any given day.

But seriously, congrats to college team sports and the gift that keeps on giving to all college sports fans. You have a large team of developing college athletes that can gel at anytime and put a streak of wins together. But get to the CWS and anything can happen. The athletes are developing so fast right in front of our eyes, week to week, especially the freshman.

College baseball and basketball have the best playoff system to deliver their champions. I wish college football could ditch the polls and let conference champions determine the NC. Football can't play as many games. Until the powers of college football ditch the human poll element for determining who plays for a NC, there will be no true NC for college football. But then there is way too much money involved. Having two small schools playing for a NC would be a disaster for TV revenues. Or would it?

Any how, we have Vandy and Virginia playing a rematch CWS NC game. Who would have predicted that? Not even Vandy and Virginia thought this was possible.

Geaux Dores! Bring home back to back CWS NC's to Nashville and the SEC!

I can understand about Florida and Virginia, but I'm not sure why you would say Vandy had zero chance.

I would love for basketball to go to a double elimination system and get rid of the chaff. Of course this will never happen as the betting pools have overtaken the event.

I can tell you that Vandy & the fans thought it was possible. Our pitching is too good not to give us a chance if the bats heated up.

I'm speaking to the bracket Vandy was in versus Florida. Vandy has the talent and experience to win the CWS again this year. But when you get the 8 hottest playing teams in college baseball in Omaha, anything can happen. I'm not slighting Vandy in any way. They had a much tougher bracket to come out of compared to Florida. Corbin is the best college baseball coach who built a program from scratch, he's taught his players how to win and be good men. His teams are fundamentally sound and well disciplined mixed with the best talent he can recruit to Nashville. I believe Vandy will win the NC again, but with baseball you never know.

We'll one is a Big 12 school not named Texas, one is a community college level school in California, and one has had its issues in the CWS of late.

And Vanderbilt is the defending champion.

Vandy caught a huuuuge break with their first game getting delayed... CSF probably cruises and Vandy would've been in the losers bracket immediately

Pretty cool that Virginia and Vandy get a rematch from last year. I don't know the odds of that happening but they have to be minuscule.

Well LSU sucks at the cws, Cal State wasn't going to come out of that bracket, so really all they had to do was beat TCU. Virginia was less likely, I would have guessed Florida.

Happened in 1973-74 (Southern California and Arizona State) and 2006-07 (Oregon State and North Carolina). Both times, the team that won the first year also won the second.
