Barry Odom translates to The Spear of the Long River Flat

Barry is anglosaxon for "spear". Odom is anglosaxon for "dweller of the long-cultivated river flat." Hence "The Spear of the Long River Flat."
Considering Columbia, MO lies along the bountiful Missouri River, and the eastern flank of the state was cut from the Mighty Mississippi, the name Barry Odom is not only appropriate but also prophetic. The great Dan Devine long ago predicted that "a true son molded from red clay will one day lead Mizzou football to a national championship." Red clay is a reference to Barry Odom's place of birth, Oklahoma, and true son is a reference to where Barry Odom played football in college, Mizzou.
SEC baws, prepare for disappointment. The Spear of the Long River Flat will utterly destroy SEC football teams on the field of the Mormon Holy Land. Missouri is the Promised Land and The Spear of the Long River Flat is the messiah.
