THE GAME: The University of Alabama football team makes its 2013 Southeastern Conference home debut Saturday when it welcomes the Ole Miss Rebels to Bryant-Denny Stadium. The game marks the 61st meeting between the Crimson Tide and Rebels and will be broadcast nationally on ESPN with kickoff set for 5:30 p.m. (CDT). Brad Nessler will serve as the play-by-play announcer, with Todd Blackledge at his side as the color analyst. The two will be joined by sideline reporter Holly Rowe

SERIES HISTORY: Saturday’s game marks the 61st meeting between the Crimson Tide and Rebels. Alabama has won nine straight in the series (three of which were vacated for the 2005-07 seasons), outscoring Ole Miss 248-118 in those contests

NO. 1 FOR SIX STRAIGHT YEARS: The 2013 season marks the sixth straight year for the Crimson Tide to make an appearance at No. 1. The Tide is just the second team in the era of the AP poll to appear at No. 1 for five years, much less six

STREAKING: Alabama enters the Ole Miss contest tied for the third-longest winning streak in the Football Bowl Subdivision at seven games. Ole Miss enters tied for seventh longest, with 5 games.

FRESHMAN CONTRIBUTIONS: Alabama has needed contributions from 28 first- or second-year players early in the 2013 season. The Crimson Tide has played 11 true freshman with tight end O.J. Howard, cornerback Eddie Jackson and long snapper Cole Mazza earning starts. Six more redshirt freshman have earned playing time, including Ryan Anderson, Chris Black, Brandon Greene, Adam Griffith, Alphonse Taylor and Dalvin Tomlinson. The Tide has also played 10 true sophomores with Amari Cooper, Geno Smith and T.J. Yeldon having started games during their careers. Junior-college transfer Leon Brown has also seen time as a backup at right tackle. Other true freshmen seeing playing time include, DE Jonathan Allen, WR Raheem Falkins, LB Reuben Foster, RB Derrick Henry, DL A’Shawn Robinson, CB Maurice Smith, RB Altee Tenpenny and LB Tim Williams.

ALABAMA HAS MOST WINS SINCE 2008: Dating back to the start of the 2008 season, Alabama has won 64 games, which is the most in the Football Bowl Subdivision

BEATING THE BEST: Alabama is 24-7 against the Associated Press top 25, including a 15-4 mark against AP top-10 teams over the past six seasons

WINNING TURNOVER BATTLE RESULTS IN WINS: Alabama has proven tough to beat when winning the turnover battle since the start of the 2008 season. The Crimson Tide is 42-0 in that time when the Tide has fewer turnovers than its opponent

MANDELL FIFTH NATIONALLY IN PUNTING: Punter Cody Mandell is averaging 47.2 yards per punt in 2013, which ranks fifth nationally and second in the SEC

JONES LEADS SEC IN PUNT RETURNS: Junior Christion Jones leads the Southeastern Conference and ranks 14th nationally in punt returns with a 14.3 yards per return average.

SABAN VS. OLE MISS: Alabama head coach Nick Saban owns a 9-1 record (10-1 before the vacated win in 2007) in his career against Ole Miss. He is 5-0 at Alabama

The Rebels are 3-0 for the first time since the 1989 season and are looking to start 4-0 for the first time since 1970

The current five-game win streak is the team’s longest since winning eight straight between 2008 and 2009

The last time Ole Miss played a game in which both teams were ranked was Oct. 10, 2009 when the 16th-ranked Rebels lost to 3rd-ranked Alabama 22-3 in Oxford

Ole Miss has a 1-12 record all-time when playing the defending national champions (BCS or AP).

The Rebels’ one victory was a 31-13 win over LSU in 2008.

This is the fourth straight season that the Rebels will face the defending national champs and the sixth time in the last seven years.

Ole Miss is ranked for the third straight week, coming in at No. 21 in both the AP poll and USA Today Coaches’ poll after a bye week.

Five true freshmen have started at least one game so far (DB Tony Conner, TE Evan Engram, DE Robert Nkem- diche, WR Laquon Treadwell, OT Laremy Tunsil)

The last time Ole Miss and Alabama were both undefeated when they met was in 1982

Ole Miss ranks 6th in the SEC in scoring (38.0 ppg), T-4th in total offense (490.0 ypg), 2nd in rushing (250.0 ypg), 3rd in first downs (27.0/game), T-1st in red zone offense (92.9 pct.) and 4th in 3rd-down conversions (51.2%)

Ole Miss leads the SEC and ranks 2nd nationally in punt return average (29.7), while the Rebels are 3rd in the SEC and 15th nationally in net punting (41.4)

Ole Miss players are wearing PS stickers on their helmets this season in honor of former teammate Park Stevens, who died in a car accident on July 3. Redshirt-freshman OL Robert Conyers changed his uniform number from 78 to Stevens’ 75 to honor his friend and former roommate, and Stevens’ memory will also be honored in a “Fallen Rebels” display in the IPF soon

COMMONALITIES: Alabama and Ole Miss share the same number of on-campus lynchings since the late 1800s.

What makes this even funnier is if Oral Roberts had been around in the 1800's, they'd lead in both lynchings AND "Most Science Classes Refusing to Acknowledge Evolution"
