As for the tennis ball, I do know that Julio Jones trains by catching tennis balls, but as for throwing I haven't a clue.

I understand catching tennis balls. It develops softer hands and teaches you to close your hands around the ball. but throwing? That's a mystery.

Throwing tennis balls on dry land may not help much, but in the water it would train you to develop arm speed very effectively. Arm speed translates to more throwing power.

Maybe. It just seems if you wanted to develop arm speed you would throw a heavier object to build are strength. However, I never played QB, so what do I know?

as for the tennis ball, I just think they aren't bringing FBs into the ocean. This isn't a test of whether they they throw a wet, salty ball. It's about eyes closed footwork, making unnatural footwork of an elite quarterback as natural as the way they get out of bed in the morning.

One thing I'll say about Barnett, who admittedly looked lost in the A-day game, the man works hard. He's always off doing some crazy workout or mental excercise. I bet he keeps a food journal. You don't see pics of him hanging out drinking a beer and playing with his dog. That kind of work ethic, combined with his God given talents projects very well as a QB over his career and also in life.

He reminds me of one of those guys who every year comes back and there is something different about them. They lose 20 pounds, they gain 20 pounds, etc. Players who refuse to be out worked get better as they put the work in, where there are always talented players who remain static or even disappear as they are shocked they don't magically get better just by doing the bare minimum and growing older.

There can be little debate that if he were playing an SEC schedule TODAY, he's a C- QB at best. But with 4 years of eligibility if he improves every summer, fall, and spring, before his time is done we may have a grade A QB. Maybe not a 4 year starter, but you are dead inside if this kid's future doesn't excite you.

I don't know if this training technique will improve his quarterbacking, but he ought to be primed to go deep in the Under-18 All-Valley Karate Tournament.

footwork/balance/stability drill.. relatively nothing to do with throwing motion, but with most all drills u finish with a release.

Tennis balls=cheap, easy & float

Thank you for explaining the tennis ball to the bike helmet crew oldschool. Btw LSU fans, George is highly respected, but no one can work miracles. Maybe it's just that your coaches suck and can't develop talent that George can't fix over a summer. All I know is Simms went from a backup running back to a 5th year senior starter that took us to the playoffs, most passing yards in Bama history, and would have won it all if he had the defense from last year.

A wet tennis ball weighs less than 100g and a dry football weighs more than 400g. It has do to entirely with the process of making a throw and not the actual speed of the motion.

Eta if you want to increase arm strength and therefore increase speed of throw you would throw a heavier ball.

Yes - it is basically the equivalent of a pitchers whipping a towel. The point is the motion/technique/muscle memory, not throwing. The tennis ball is just to have an object in your hand leave your hand.
