Love that place. The new building looks really nice. It needed badly expanding before the tornado in my opinion. They are going to do very well when they reopen.

Is that flagpole out off of 69 headed toward Moundville that was bent by the tornado several years back still standing?

I know what you mean.

My mom was in the hospital last week and my wife and I would go visit after work. Waiting on the elevators we would look out over McFarland and 15th and man it was weird being able to look out and basically see no houses, trees, and hardly any businesses.

So is the Full Moon across the street from where it used to be? Is it where the Chinese Buffet was?

Yeah, it's basically built in what was the parking lot for the Hong Kong King Buffet next to where the Chevron was. I still don't know what is going to be on the corner there or if they are going to rebuild the Chevron.

I hope they rebuild it and keep the car wash deal attached to it.

I hope so too. I worked there while putting myself through college. Lots of good memories.

It's amazing to think about how many trees use to be in that area, compared to what is there now.

Did you drive through Alberta?

Yes, Alberta still looks really bad. They have done an excellent job of cleaning it up and stuff is tarting to rebuild but to me the evidence of the tornado is worst in Alberta City.

Are there plans to rebuild?

I am hearing a big Midtown type development is going to be built on the old cedar crest land. Would be an ideal location for something like that.

Thanks for the update rolltide! Can you elaborate a little more on some of the new buildings or businesses that you noticed that have been constructed on 15th/McFarland?

Full moon just reopened and Krispy Kreme is near being complete. The new Hokkaido and Express Oil Change are also near completion. The CVS has cleared and there appears to be rebuilding of it along with the property next to the CVS that was being worked on. Also, the owner of the old Wood Square shopping center has started moving ground on the new development they proposed to the city council a few weeks ago. It is going to be a multi-million dollar Midtown type retail/residential development focusing on the village feel (a place where you can live, shop, eat and play) that Mayor Maddox wants in his Tuscaloosa Forward plan.

That was another infamous tornado but for difference reasons. It was one of the strongest (F4) and deadliest (11 fatalities) December tornadoes in U.S. history. I remember that tornado well as it preceded a very strong cold front that dropped the temperature from the low 70s the afternoon of the tornado to the mid 20s the following morning. I remember waking up to a dusting of snow with the wind howling out of the north. I remember the temp never getting out of the 20s the following day. That was December 16, 2000.

P.S. I remember seeing the HillCrest/Shelton State area just a couple of days after that tornado and remember seeing a bicycle wrapped around the flagpole in question.
